Accounting Specialist - AR

A global freight forwarder is seeking an Accounting Specialist - AR to be responsible for all aspects of accounts receivable duties. In this role, you will handle customer payments, outstanding debt collection, cash application, account reconciliation, credit management, and month-end closing. As a main point of contact, you will frequently interact with customers and third-party payment vendors on a daily basis, providing quality customer service in a fast-paced environment. Accounts Receivable & Cash Application Send invoices to customers and provide professional, timely follow-up on payment arrangements. Apply customer payments in the system and perform bank reconciliation. Identify and resolve issues with billing and customer payments. Collections & Relationship Management Monitor and report on collection activity and accounts receivable status. Establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with customers, team members, and third-party vendors. Credit Management & Database Maintenance Assist in the credit approval process for new customers when needed. Monitor and maintain the AR customer database. Month-End & Administrative Support Assist with month-end/year-end closing, financial audits, and other accounting or administrative projects as needed. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. • Travel Required: 0 to 5% Working Location Elk Grove Village, IL Salary & Benefits Salary: $21.90/hour ~ $31.37/hour 100% company-paid medical, dental, vision, term life/AD&D, and HRA Voluntary Short-Term Disability 401(k) with company match Qualifications Experience: 2 to 4 years in the air freight industry preferred. Education: High School diploma/GED required. An Accounting degree or a degree in a related field is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft platforms (Word, Excel, Outlook). Strong problem-solving, documentation, research, resolution, and data analysis skills. AS400 experience is a plus. Detail-oriented with strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
