Position Overview The Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs is seeking to hire an independent, highly organized, and detail-oriented Licensed Registered Nurse for the Chicago VA home located in Chicago, Illinois. This position will be responsible for performing direct nursing care for residence of the home. The successful candidate shall demonstrate good oral and written communication skills, be a self-starter, and be able to carry out nursing assignments pursuant to the direction of medical personnel. Essential Functions Under direction, provides direct patient care. Serves as lead worker. Assist physician with rounds. Reviews member medical records to assure that physician orders are posted, medication and member care treatment and observations are charted. Verify number and classification of staff available to assign/reassign. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate degree or diploma in nursing and two (2) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience; OR a bachelor's degree in nursing and one (1) year of professional nursing experience; OR a master's degree in nursing. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Conditions of Employment Requires ability to pass a background check. Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical. Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance. Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers. Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties. Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
