Registered Nurse

Job Title & Summary Registered Nurse – Acute Care. The RN is responsible for providing quality, competent nursing care in the acute care setting to patients, families, and significant others. The role is performed under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer and Assistant Director of Patient Care Services. Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care and supervise Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants. Use the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation) to deliver patient-centered care. Collaborate with physicians, healthcare workers, and other team members to coordinate care. Delegate and supervise nursing activities while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and providers; provide patient education and teaching. Maintain accurate documentation of nursing interventions, patient responses, and outcomes. Participate in emergency protocols, including fire, disaster plans, and code responses. Assist with orientation of new personnel and serve as a clinical resource. Support quality assurance and compliance initiatives and report incidents. Essential Functions Assessment: Collect and organize patient assessment data; obtain information from patients, families, and the health care team continuously. Diagnosis: Analyze data to identify expected outcomes and formulate measurable goals. Planning: Develop individualized plans of care based on assessment, patient needs, and legal standards. Implementation: Execute interventions, incorporate evidence-based practices, and document changes. Evaluation: Assess patient progress, revise plans, and communicate outcomes. Quality of Care: Maintain ethical, accountable, and responsible documentation and practice. Education & Experience RN degree or graduate from an accredited nursing program (American College of Nursing or National League for Nursing). Current South Dakota RN license or multi-state licensure privileges. Experience in acute care settings is preferred. Required Credentials Active RN license in South Dakota or multi-state privileges. BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required; TNCC recommended. Employment Variables & Conditions Normal shifts are 12‑hour, Sunday through Saturday, including holidays. Work may extend beyond regular hours as needed. Exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and environmental stressors is possible. Employer conducts initial TB test, drug screening, Rubella titer, and required immunizations. Employee must wear a name tag and follow the dress code. Job Knowledge and Skills Excellent oral and written communication. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, laws, regulations, and guidelines pertinent to acute care. Professional and respectful interpersonal skills. Physical and Mental Requirements Regular activities include sitting (>50% of shift), standing (up to 4.5 hours), walking, and lifting loads up to 25 lbs frequently. Requires clear vision, hearing, and speech for effective communication. Exposure to blood/body fluids, chemicals, radiation, and other medical hazards with appropriate PPE. Job Relationships Supervisor: Chief Nursing Officer. Interacts with patients, families, healthcare providers, and staff. May supervise LPNs and CNAs.
