Your Mission As a Site Safety Manager at Hydrostor, you will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive safety programs across our project. Reporting to the Director, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing Hydrostor’s safety culture, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements. This is a mid‑to‑senior‑level role with direct impact on the safety performance of our projects, including responsibility for managing safety staff, interfacing with regulatory agencies, and driving best‑in‑class practices across all operations. Your Day-to-Day Adventures Program Leadership & Development : Establish, implement, and continuously improve site safety policies, procedures, and standards in alignment with company goals and regulatory requirements. Compliance & Regulatory Oversight : Ensure full compliance with local, national, and international health, safety, and environmental regulations. Serve as the primary contact for agencies such as OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory bodies. Team Leadership & Mentorship : Supervise and mentor safety personnel (e.g., safety coordinators, inspectors, and officers). Provide coaching, training, and career development to strengthen team capability. Contractor & Stakeholder Management : Oversee contractor safety programs to ensure all external partners adhere to Hydrostor’s EHS requirements. Build strong relationships with contractors, consultants, and regulatory officials. Risk Management & Audits : Conduct high‑level risk assessments, site audits, and hazard analyses to identify and mitigate potential risks. Develop and implement corrective and preventive measures to ensure safe operations. Training & Development : Design and deliver comprehensive training programs to employees, contractors, and leadership teams. Foster a culture of accountability and continuous learning in safety practices. Incident & Emergency Response : Lead investigations of safety incidents, ensuring root cause analysis, corrective actions, and knowledge sharing across projects. Oversee emergency preparedness plans and conduct regular drills. Data, Reporting & Analysis : Manage safety performance metrics and dashboards. Analyze data trends to identify improvement opportunities and report results to leadership and project stakeholders. Reporting back to leadership and project teams Environmental Stewardship : Partner with EHS leadership to integrate environmental sustainability and resource conservation into site safety practices. Presentation Skills in Safety: Demonstrate strong public speaking abilities to effectively deliver safety training sessions, emergency response plans, and hazard awareness briefings to diverse audiences, ensuring clear communication and engagement to promote a culture of safety compliance. Reporting Skills: Proficient in documenting safety observations, audits, and metrics using standardized formats like OSHA forms or internal software, with emphasis on accuracy, timeliness, and data analysis to identify trends and support proactive risk management. Toolbox Talks: Lead concise, interactive daily or weekly sessions on specific safety topics such as PPE usage or lockout/tagout procedures, fostering team participation to reinforce safe work practices and address immediate job‑site concerns. Incident Investigation : Conduct thorough root cause analyses following accidents or near‑misses, utilizing methods like the 5 Whys or fishbone diagrams to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and recommend preventive measures without assigning blame. Corrective Actions: Develop and implement actionable plans to address identified safety deficiencies, such as equipment upgrades or process modifications, while tracking progress through follow‑up audits to ensure sustained improvements and regulatory adherence. Reprimand Procedures: Apply fair and consistent disciplinary measures for safety violations, starting with verbal warnings and escalating as needed, while documenting each step to protect the organization legally and encourage behavioral change through education. Reporting Needs in Safety : Establish comprehensive protocols for mandatory reporting of hazards, injuries, and environmental incidents to authorities like OSHA or EPA, including training on whistleblower protections to encourage open communication without fear of retaliation. Independent Decision Making in Safety: Exhibit autonomy in evaluation risk and implementing safety protocols without undue influence from operational procedures, ensuring objective judgment that prioritizes employee wellbeing, regulatory compliance, and long‑term resilience through ethical and evidence‑based choices Who You Are The ideal candidate will be a strategic and hands‑on safety leader with proven success in managing large‑scale safety programs within industrial, energy, mining, or oil & gas environments. You are a strong communicator who inspires confidence, builds trust, and leads by example. With the ability to balance high‑level strategy and on‑the‑ground execution, you thrive in complex project environments and excel at influencing diverse stakeholders. A passion for safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement will be essential for success in this role. What You Bring Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field (Preferred) 5–10 years of progressive experience in safety management (owners side), with at least 3 years in a leadership role overseeing teams or large‑scale projects. Advanced professional certifications preference: CSST, OSHA 500, BCSP CHST, Certified Safety Manager (CSM), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Strong Knowledge on Cal/Osha Regulations and requirements. Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing EHS programs within industrial or large‑scale project environments. Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and international safety standards; experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 preferred. Proven track record of contractor management and ability to enforce strict safety requirements across diverse stakeholders. Exceptional communication, leadership, and team‑building skills, with experience mentoring junior safety staff. Exceptional organizational skills and computer skills as most of the safety reporting will be done online using systems such HSI safety management systems and Procore. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to use data to inform decision‑making. Experience leading incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning. Ability to work in dynamic, multi‑site environments with flexibility to travel as required. Commitment to environmental sustainability and integrating stewardship into safety practices.
