Global Communications Senior Strategist

Location: This role is located on-site at one of our offices in New York and requires a minimum of four days per week in the office. Qualified applicants must live within commuting distance of New York. Reporting to the Head of Communications, you will serve as the strategic and operational backbone of the Communications team, holding a full view across all four practices, driving the planning and execution rhythm of the function, and ensuring the team consistently works on the right things in the right way. What You’ll Do: Drive Planning and Execution Across the Function: Own the planning infrastructure for the Communications team, including calendars, briefs, frameworks, and operating rhythms that keep all four practices aligned and moving at pace. Serve as a Strategic Partner to the Head of Communications: Act as a thought partner and extension of the Head of Communications’ capacity, shaping priorities and ensuring nothing important falls through the cracks. Connect the Practices and the Regions: Maintain a full view across all four practices, identify overlaps and gaps, and facilitate working relationships between global practices and regional teams for coherent execution. Shape How the Function Works: Define the operating model for internal and cross‑functional collaboration, including frameworks, processes, and shared norms. Build the Communications Intelligence Infrastructure: Define and maintain data sources, reporting frameworks, and cadences that make an accurate picture of Sonos’ performance across earned, owned, and cultural channels. Synthesize Cross‑Channel Insights: Integrate signals from earned media, owned social, influencer programs, and cultural trends into actionable insights. Drive AI Integration: Identify and embed AI tools and workflows into research, planning, and reporting to create practical advantages. Competitive and Cultural Intelligence: Monitor media and cultural landscapes, competitor activity, category trends, and platform shifts to surface relevant insights early. Manage the Tech Stack: Own the Communications tool ecosystem, deciding what the team uses, how it’s configured, and when to add or remove tools as the function evolves. You Are: A strategic communicator who understands the inner workings of communications and editorial, including decisions, tradeoffs, and dynamics behind deliverables. Comfortable with data and measurement, reading performance signals and communicating insights without overstating them. Genuinely curious about AI and data tools, experimenting and finding new applications proactively. A strong writer who can distill complex situations into clear briefs, sharp summaries, or well‑framed recommendations. Capable of operating with little direction, proactively identifying needs and advancing work. Enthusiastic about building something new and maintaining it once it’s running. Collaborative by default, with credibility and judgment to influence senior peers. Curious about the world, paying attention to culture, media, and industry happenings to inform work. What You’ll Need: 8+ years of experience in communications, marketing strategy, editorial, or a related field, with significant time across multiple functions or practices. Demonstrated experience driving planning, coordination, or strategy in a fast‑moving environment. Strong writing and communication skills across formats: strategic briefs, executive summaries, planning frameworks, recommendations. Solid understanding of communications channels and how they connect, including earned media, owned social, influencer, enough to hold meaningful conversations. Familiarity with media monitoring, social analytics, and earned media measurement platforms, and judgment to know which signals matter. Comfort with AI and productivity tools in a professional context, not as a specialist but as a productivity enabler. Experience building cross‑functional working relationships and navigating complex organizations. Comfortable contributing at all levels on a lean team with high standards. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Your base pay range for this role based on geographic location is $129,000 to $160,700. The specific pay offered will depend on location, qualifications, and experience.
