District Social Worker Job Details Job ID: 5681539 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: May 01, 2026 12:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Aug 31, 2026 Position Type: Full-time Salary: $61,142 to $114,820 Per Year Job Description Chelmsford Public Schools is now accepting applications for the District Social Worker vacancy for the 2026-2027 School Year. The District reserves the right to change or not fill this vacancy based on staffing changes, enrollment, or budget. In this role, the Social Worker will assist students with personal, social‑emotional, psychological and environmental priority areas that affect their capacity to meet their school potential. The Social Worker will partner with students, families, caregivers, community agencies and school personnel to implement a collaborative approach for assessing student needs and delivering programs that maximize students' school success. The Social Worker will support children and families using a clinical and case‑management approach to address obstacles to school attendance, barriers to learning, and achievement of potential. Responsibilities Support the social, emotional and psychological well‑being of students to reduce barriers to learning. Observe, assess and provide services to students in a variety of settings, including school, home, and community. Provide family support through parent support groups, home visits, parent trainings, and educational workshops on adolescent development, stress reduction, and parenting strategies. Build and maintain relationships with parents/families of students served, including phone calls, meetings, e‑mail and home visits. Communicate and collaborate with School Counselors, Administrators, Supervisor of Students, and School Resource Officer. Work independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including school educators, specialists, administrators, family and community partners. Provide crisis intervention services. Assess and report suspected abuse or neglect as a mandated reporter. Provide referrals for community services. Participate in meetings as necessary. Work directly with students as part of a multidisciplinary team. Meet regularly with the Principal, Deans, Guidance Counselors, Psychologists, and Nurses to coordinate student services. Collaborate with therapists, BCBAs and other direct service providers to support students and communicate with their teaching team about educational needs. Develop plans to support students and families in increasing consistent student attendance. Assess child mental health needs and implement short‑term, frequent, and strategic interventions. Utilize appropriate screening tools to administer risk assessments. Facilitate groups for identified at‑risk students to develop SEL skills. Develop and provide professional learning opportunities to staff and families related to social–emotional issues and how they impact learning. Support school and district‑wide social emotional learning initiatives, including curriculum in the areas of resiliency and student mental health. Assist with universal and targeted mental health screenings, including, but not limited to: SBIRT, YRBS, RCADS, Risk Assessments. Act as a liaison as required. Perform other duties as assigned by administration. Job Requirements Master’s degree or higher in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, School Counseling, Social Work Adjustment Counselor, or a related field. MA DESE License as a School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor (All Levels). Licensure as LCSW/LICSW/LMHC preferred. Knowledge of and experience working in a school setting preferred. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience working in diverse communities preferred. Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. At least two years of relevant experience preferred. Master’s degree preferred. Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
