Valet Attendant ($15.50/hr + tips) - Hampton Inn Salem

Job Summary The Guest Service Associate is responsible for providing exceptional hospitality services to guests in an attentive, friendly and efficient manner. The role includes parking and retrieving guest vehicles promptly and safely, and assisting guests with luggage (delivery and pickup) during arrival and departure. Compensation & Schedule Hourly base pay range: $15.50 per hour plus tips. Part‑time shifts. Eligibility depends on job classification, length of employment and number of hours worked. Seasonal and temporary roles are not eligible for the above benefits. Essential Functions Maintains pleasant, friendly, and professional demeanor with all guests, co‑workers, and clients; acknowledges and greets guests within five feet with a professional and friendly demeanor; uses guests’ last names during interactions (25%). Uses salutation of the day and welcomes guests to the location; practices proper Towne Park phone etiquette; posts in designated areas when not completing tasks (10%). Parks and retrieves vehicles while driving slowly and cautiously; assists guests with bell services and luggage storage as needed; opens all vehicle and hotel doors for guests (20%). Assists guests with directions, taxis, reservations, and other inquiries; provides information about outlets, meeting rooms and/or amenities of the facility as well as main attractions in the area; delivers messages, items and/or guest amenities as requested; shuttles guests to approved places (10%). Explains parking rates and retrieval procedures to guests upon arrival; issues claim checks only after receiving vehicle keys and collects claim checks from all guests prior to issuing keys; consistently completes and maintains all ticket information including key tag, guest folio, location of vehicle, damage survey and claim check receipt from all vehicles taken into the valet system; consistently completes location on all key tags after parking vehicle; calculates and collects revenue for vehicles when needed (35%). All functions totaled—100% of time. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Licensure: Valid driver’s license for the applicable state. Work Experience: One (1) month of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of customer and personal services principles and processes. Skills: Ability to read and write standard English; comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence; write simple correspondence; present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations; perform arithmetic with American money; understand 24‑hour and military time; understand applicable rates; operate manual transmission (highly desirable); perform parallel parking. Authority to act is primarily routine; decisions are made within specific operational instructions and departmental guidelines. Working Conditions & Physical Demands Work requires frequent sitting or standing for extended periods, running, walking, handling objects, reaching with hands and arms, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Lifting up to 100pounds occasionally, up to 50pounds frequently, up to 20pounds constantly. Work is primarily outdoors and subject to extreme heat and cold weather.
