Maintenance TechnicianThe University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support the PCPF-O&M department, which is responsible for maintaining mission critical, 24/7 facility operations that directly impact patient care. The Maintenance Technician plays a key role in ensuring reliability, safety, and continuous uptime of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems in a highly collaborative, accountability-driven environment.UT MD Anderson is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Maintenance Technician will contribute to this mission by supporting facility operations that enable uninterrupted clinical services and patient care delivery. The Maintenance Technician role requires strong technical skills, independence during overnight operations, and effective coordination with cross-functional teams.The ideal candidate brings a combination of hands-on multi-trade experience and strong interpersonal skills. Preferred qualifications emphasize experience in plumbing, electrical work, and customer service, along with exposure to Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). Working at UT MD Anderson provides exposure to complex facilities, collaborative teams, and continuous learning opportunities, while offering schedules that support work-life balance and professional growth in a highly respected healthcare environment.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintenance, Repair & TroubleshootingPerform repairs, troubleshooting, routing, and preventive maintenance on equipment, buildings, and utility systemsMaintain accurate records of materials, work performed, and related documentationNotify management of all identified equipment repairsClean and maintain equipment and work areasRepair or replace ceiling grids and tilesProvide initial HVAC response for hot/cold calls, odors, and exhaust issuesAssist with HVAC equipment repair or replacementProvide plumbing response including unclogging toilets and sinks and shutting off fixture stopsUse sewer machines on floor drains and replace faucets, valves, and fixturesPerform electrical tasks including replacing lamps, ballasts, switches, receptacles, and light diffusersPreventive Maintenance & Work CoordinationAssist with preventive maintenance tasks as assignedManage assigned work orders and complete them according to scheduleEnsure completed work meets standards of cleanliness, maintenance quality, and safetyMaintain knowledge of building and utility systemsCollaborate with team members across all trades to resolve issuesInterpret instructions, blueprints, sketches, and diagramsCoordinate workflow for technicians and mechanics as neededAssist with outage investigationsParticipate in process improvement initiativesCustomer Service & CommunicationRespond to customer calls and provide customer serviceMaintain ongoing communication with customers and clients regarding work statusUnderstand customer needs and ensure timely resolution of issuesDocumentation & ReportingProvide accurate documentation of corrective actions, labor hours, and materials usedCommunicate promptly with supervisors regarding work issues or delaysEmergency ResponseRespond to facility emergencies, including Code Red alarmsEDUCATIONRequired: High School Diploma or EquivalentPreferred: Associate's Degree Trade or technical schoolWORK EXPERIENCERequired: Two years Experience in one or more crafts (i.e. plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, instrumentation).The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center offers excellent benefits, including medical, dental, paid time off, retirement, tuition benefits, educational opportunities, and individual and team recognition.
