Engineer II (NS) – Division of Highways Agency Dept of Transportation Division State Hwy Administrator – Div of HwysPosition Number 60025784 | Grade NC18 Description of Work We are looking for an experienced and knowledgeable Deputy Project Manager skilled in delivering qualitytransportation projects from concept to construction. This includes working closely with other ProjectManagers, Divisions, discipline leads, and other internal and external stakeholders to understand theproject needs and challenges, as well as assisting Project Managers in removing obstacles, solvingproblems, and leading multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities Proactively manage the scope, schedule, budget, and risk for STIP and Non-STIP projects of low to moderatecomplexity. Assist the Senior Project Manager or Project Manager with day-to-day activities and tasks on complex STIPprojects. Support the Senior Project Manager or Project Manager in overseeing private engineering firms (PEF) onexternal projects. Ensure the overall quality of deliverables meets department expectations. Run and develop various team reports that assist with tracking project progress and monitoring projectbudgets. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences Management prefers applicants with the following: Experience managing a project team delivering transportation projects and tracking/maintaining projectschedules. Knowledge of professional engineering principles and practices of civil engineering as related tohighway design with an emphasis on project planning, project design, and construction and maintenancemethods, as they apply to the Project Delivery Process. Knowledge of Professional Engineering contracts and understanding scoping, estimating, andnegotiating. Experience setting priorities, developing work schedules, monitoring goal progress, and trackingdetails/data/information/activities. Experience expressing moderately complex engineering concepts and related facts in a clear andorganized manner to internal and external customers. Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institutionand three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education andexperience. Necessary Special Qualification: May require registration as a professional engineer by the NorthCarolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
