Inspector

Responsibilities Promote a safe working environment and adhere to all Silgan safety policies and procedures. Ensure finished goods meet or exceed customer expectations and find classification of typical defects encountered. Alert the operator to all defects so that they can be addressed. Verify the specifications sheet that packaging parameters are being met and safely perform any required rework. Perform housekeeping duties, keeping the work area clean; when a line goes down, clean the entire line area. Assist in teamwork by performing rework, finishing, packing, transporting corrugated, erecting corrugated, grinding bottles during startup, clearing jams, and providing housekeeping assistance during maintenance. Evaluate and take appropriate action to maintain a safe work environment with established standards and guidelines; inspect work areas and look for unsafe acts or conditions. Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Defect Classification Critical defects: defects that are likely to cause failure of the package to the point where the package will not fulfill its intended purpose and are likely to result in an unsafe or hazardous condition for the customer or end user. Major defects: defects that may cause handling or performance problems but not package failure. Minor defects: defects that are aesthetically objectionable but will not cause package failure. Education High School diploma or GED equivalent (preferred). Skills Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds continuously throughout the shift. Work involves continuous lifting, bending, reaching, and twisting.
