Medical Receptionist

Job Summary: The Medical Receptionist coordinates all front office functions in a medical clinic specializing in LGBTQ+ primary care and HIV medical care. Reports to Director of Health Services, AARC Health Equity Clinic.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a team member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job in a traditional indoor office, the team member is exposed to a medical office environment having direct/indirect contact with patients and clients. Team members are also exposed to a social service work environment. Some job duties may include travel and outdoor environment. Physical demands refer to the level and duration of physical exertion generally required to perform tasks in support of job functions, for example - sitting, keyboarding, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, twisting, turning, climbing step stools, and standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and maneuver a minimum of 25 pounds using proper safe lifting techniques.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Greet patients and check in patients for appointments
- Handle incoming and outgoing phone calls
- Schedule new and follow-up patient appointments and labs appointments
- Obtain patient demographic and insurance information on all new patient appointments prior to visit
- Verify insurance coverage, eligibility and prior authorization of insurance in EMR and state database
- Collects copays related to office visit
- Create patient files in electronic record system and data entry into database and electronic records system
- Prepare copays for health insurance program
- Calls patients to confirm appointment and informs patient of financial responsibility prior to office visit
- Assist with collecting monthly supply list for clinic
- Processes monthly entries into database
- Other duties as assigned
- Experience using electronic medical records
- Strong communication skills
- Sensitive, compassionate, and positive attitude
- Ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientation, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, and physical abilities in a multi-cultural environment
- Bilingual Spanish is a plus
- At least one year experience in medical office/receptionist
- Two-year Associates degree preferred but not required
- Regular schedule Monday to Friday 8AM - 4:30PM
