Overview RN ER UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's - Sioux City Downtown Hours: Full Time, 36 hours per week, 12 hour shifts Schedule: Self-Scheduling, Days 7am-7pm or Nights 7pm-7am, rotating weekends and holidays The emergency room RN is responsible for coordinating the care of patients and families utilizing the nursing process. Summary of duties include: performing a physical and psychological assessment, collection of current symptoms, obtaining a detailed patient history, utilizing nursing knowledge for critical thinking, planning of care, prioritizing of cares, evaluating response to interventions and planning for the needs of the patient and family. Responsibilities Collects current symptoms, as well as a detailed patient history and then consults and coordinates withhealth care team members to assess, plan, implementand evaluate patient cares and interventions. Performs triage, while considering both physical and psychosocial elements. Manages basic life support needs and stabilizes patients until the attending physician is available, basedupon nursing standards and protocol. Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adversesymptomatology. Recordspatients’ current vital signsper standard. Works directly withphysicians,assistingthem during exams, diagnostictestingand treatments. Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously,intravenous) andrecordsprescribed medications. Qualifications Education: Successfully completed an accredited nursing program required. All newly licensed RNs with less than six (6) months of acute RN experience at the time of application are required to successfully complete the Nurse Residency program BSN Preferred Experience: Prefer one (1) yearof Emergency Department clinical experience or demonstrated clinical efficiency. License(s)/Certification(s): Valid Nursing License with authorization to work in Iowa required Basic Certified Life Support certification required Must possess Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or obtain within 6 months of hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within 6 months from date of hire required Trauma Nurse Core Course required within one year of hire. Must obtain NIHSS education within 90 days of hire and maintain every two years thereafter. Completion of six hours of stroke education prior to the end of orientation and annually required. MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behaviors) certified within the first 6 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment (renewal every year) required.
