Registered Nurse - Stroke Telemetry

Job Summary

This Registered Nurse position is for a high-acuity, fast-paced medical-surgical environment specializing in acute stroke and complex telemetry patients. The 34-bed Stroke Telemetry Unit in Elmira, New York, delivers evidence-based, protocol-driven care with a strong focus on patient safety, rapid intervention, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

This role involves managing a diverse patient population within a high-turnover setting, requiring strong clinical skills and critical thinking to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform and document frequent neurological assessments, including the NIH Stroke Scale.
• Monitor and accurately interpret telemetry rhythms, responding to changes in real-time.
• Ensure compliance with stroke core measures, including dysphagia screening, patient education, and individualized care plans.
• Administer medications following Barcode Medication Administration (BCMA) standards, prioritizing patient safety and accuracy.
• Coordinate comprehensive patient care with an interdisciplinary team, including providers, therapy services, and case management.
• Manage patient admissions, discharges, and overall patient flow efficiently in a dynamic environment.
• Maintain a constant focus on falls prevention, skin integrity, and overall patient safety initiatives.
• Collaborate effectively within a primary and team nursing model.

Required Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New York.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret basic cardiac rhythm strips.
