Respiratory Therapist (Night Shift)

Key Responsibilities

• Provide intensive respiratory care including administration of prescribed treatments using ventilatory equipment (invasive and non-invasive), oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices
• Perform arterial punctures, oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, chest physiotherapy, and patient suctioning via oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods
• Perform and interpret 12-Lead EKGs, conduct routine review of chest x-rays, and assist with procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement
• Perform insertion and removal of endotracheal and tracheostomy tubes (emergent and non-emergent) using freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope systems
• Set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed
• Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges; communicate patient status during shift-to-shift handoff rounds

Required Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist license within the applicable state
• Current BLS and ACLS certification
• Demonstrated ability to operate invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment and related respiratory care devices
• Ability to perform arterial punctures and interpret results to assess ventilation efficiency
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision across a range of respiratory care procedures

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with moderate complexity laboratory testing procedures including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation
• Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage and video laryngoscope systems
• Experience in an acute care or intensive care hospital setting
