Speech Language Pathologist
This is a 0.5 FTE for the 2026- 2027 school year. Wheeling CCSD21 Benefits 2026 Benefits Guide 2026 Insurance Premiums Full-Time Annualized Salary Range- $61,804.48 - $68,593.98 Compensation level negotiable and commensurate with education and experience. Please see the attached job description. Bilingual Spanish is highly preferred.

Purpose
The speech-language pathologist will foster an inclusive and supportive educational environment where all students, particularly those with speech, language, and communication challenges, can thrive. The SLP's primary objective is to identify and address these challenges through comprehensive assessments, targeted interventions, and collaborative efforts with teachers, parents, and other educational professionals. By enhancing students' communication skills, the SLP contributes to their academic success, social development, and overall quality of life, ensuring they have the tools they need to reach their full potential.
Responsibilities: Performance responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provides screening, identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, intervention, and follow-up services for speech and/or language disorders of: speech, including articulation, fluency and voice language, including phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, and disorders of receptive and expressive communication in oral, written, graphic, and manual modalities oral and pharyngeal functions, including disorders of swallowing and feeding cognitive aspects of communication social aspects of communication
- Considers student development factors when interpreting evaluative data and designing interventions
- Creates goals and benchmarks or short-term objectives to enable students to meet expectations for learning
- Interprets and uses assessment data for the purpose of making appropriate modifications in the learning environment and planning effective interventions
- Accesses and employs a wide range of information and technology to enhance student learning
- Assists in determining the least restrictive environment to provide services based upon the needs of individual students
- Plans, selects, uses and adjusts as necessary instructional content, materials, resources, and strategies based upon age, ability, cultural, linguistic, and gender differences of the student
- Speaks and writes effectively using language appropriate to the situation and the audience
- Uses a variety of appropriate formal and informal assessment tools and procedures
- Uses nondiscriminatory evaluation procedures in order to obtain a valid understanding of how a student is functioning and what the student is capable of accomplishing
- Maintains useful and accurate records and communicates information such as legal rights and evaluation results knowledgeably and responsibly to parents/guardians and others involved in meeting the needs of the student
- Maintains confidentiality of medical and academic records and respect for privacy of individuals with disabilities
- Participates in professional development opportunities
- Models accurate, effective communication when conveying ideas and information and when asking questions and responding to students
- Models the rules of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and syntax in both written and oral contexts
- Communicates with parents/guardians to develop cooperative partnerships in order to promote students' learning and well-being
- Contributes to the well-being of one's school community
- Collaborates with other professionals as resources for problem-solving, generating new ideas, sharing experiences, and seeking and giving feedback
- Follows School District Policies and Administrative Procedures and codes of professional conduct, respecting the boundaries of professional responsibilities, when working with students, colleagues, and families
- Reports any suspected child abuse or neglect as required
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as administration may assign, in accordance with Board of Education policies and administrative procedures
Specific skill and knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

Certification Required
Must have a valid State of Illinois Professional Educators License with Speech/Language Pathologist Endorsement. Bilingual Spanish Endorsement preferred.
