Event & Catering Bar Manager - $80,000–$85,000 per year - San Francisco

The role

We are looking for a full-time Event & Catering Bar Manager to lead bar operations across high-volume events in San Francisco.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys fast-paced service, variety, and teamwork. You will take ownership of the bar experience, from staffing and setup to drink quality, inventory, guest service, and end-of-event close down.

You will be the person who keeps things organized, calm, and running smoothly when the event is in full swing.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

• Hire, train, schedule, and supervise bar staff
• Lead the team during busy events and maintain high service standards
• Create and update drink menus, including specialty cocktails
• Order, receive, and manage alcohol, mixers, glassware, and supplies
• Work with Catering Managers and event planners on setup, staffing, and service flow
• Work with Beverage Manager on stocking and preparations of needed beverages for events
• Handle guest questions, concerns, and complaints professionally
• Track sales, control costs, and work within budget guidelines
• Ensure compliance with alcohol, health, and safety regulations
• Keep the bar clean, stocked, and event-ready
• Work closely with kitchen and event teams to deliver a seamless guest experience

• Event Execution Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Lead Steward regarding equipment preparation, event setup, execution, and breakdown.
• Oversee the setup and arrangement of bars, beverages, tools & utensils, glassware and serve ware
• Provide proactive on-site operational leadership and direction to service team members throughout the event.
• Ensure food handling, sanitation, beverage presentation, and venue standards are consistently maintained in compliance with company and venue expectations.
• Maintain, where due, active communication with clients, vendors, venue representatives, and event captains to ensure all elements of the event align with agreed timelines and expectations.
• Ensure guest and staff safety while adhering to all venue policies and regulations.
• Direct event breakdown and load-out procedures, ensuring the proper return and organization of company equipment.
• Maintain accurate staffing records, labour tracking, and event-related operational documentation.

The person

• We are looking for someone with a minimum of 3-5 year large volume bar management experience, great people skills, and the ability to lead from the front.
• Strong organization, communication, and people-management skills.
• Knowledge of catering, event operations, and food hygiene.
• Serve-Safe Manager and RBS certifications, required.
• High school diploma required; BA/BS in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Tourism, or related field preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, and Visio helpful.
• This role requires constant standing and walking. It involves frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 10–15 lbs, occasional lifting up to 30 lbs, and rare lifting up to 100 lbs with assistance.
• Covid vaccination, with accommodations reviewed in line with applicable regulations.

This is a salaried position. Attendance will be required in line with the business requirements, including at weekends, holidays and in the early mornings as well as evenings, based on rotating scheduling.
