Speech and Language Pathologist (Early Childhood) Part Time - 2026-27

Summary We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Speech and Language Pathologist to join our team at the brand new, state-of-the-art Lake Shore Early Childhood Center for the 2026-27 school year. The ideal candidate will provide speech and language evaluation and therapy services to students enrolled in our Early Childhood Special Education and Mild Intensive Cognitive Impairment (MICI) programs, as well as our broader early childhood population. This part-time position offers a flexible schedule and requires a commitment to early childhood best practices, collaboration with teachers and support staff, and active engagement with families to support communication development and school readiness. Responsibilities Provide speech and language screening, evaluation, and therapy services to students in the Early Childhood Special Education and MICI programs. Deliver individualized and small-group therapy targeting articulation, language, fluency, voice, and social communication skills appropriate to the early childhood population. Participate as a member of IEP teams, contributing speech and language assessments, goals, recommendations, and service delivery for eligible students. Collaborate with special education teachers, related service providers, and administrators to integrate communication strategies into the classroom and daily routines. Consult with and provide guidance to teachers and paraprofessionals on strategies to support students' communication development across all settings. Conduct evaluations and re-evaluations to determine eligibility for speech and language services in compliance with IDEA and Michigan special education requirements. Develop and monitor individualized speech and language goals in alignment with each student's IEP. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of evaluation results, therapy progress notes, and IEP records in compliance with district and state requirements. Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, home strategies, and available community resources to support communication development. Conduct home visits or family consultations as needed to support carry-over of communication strategies in the home environment. Serve as a resource to the multidisciplinary team on matters related to communication, language development, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Support the identification and referral process for students who may require additional evaluation or services. Participate in professional development and district training as assigned. Use instructional and assistive technology to support student communication and learning. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Early Childhood Education or the Executive Director of Special Education. Requirements Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program required. Valid Michigan Speech and Language Pathology license or eligibility for licensure required. Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred, or Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) status considered. Experience working with young children with disabilities, developmental delays, or cognitive impairments in a school or early childhood setting preferred. Knowledge of early childhood speech and language development, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and evidence-based intervention practices. Knowledge of special education processes, IEP development, and IDEA requirements. Strong ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary and special education team. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage caseloads, documentation, and multiple priorities effectively. Proficiency with district data systems, Google Workspace, and other educational technology platforms. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment for all students and families. Compensation Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings, family homes, and professional meetings as required. Work Schedule This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule to be determined based on program needs and candidate availability. Physical Requirements Works in standard school environment.
