JOB SUMMARY:


Vail Valley Surgery Center is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to support its operating-room team in Vail, Colorado. The Surgical Technologist will assist during surgical procedures by establishing and maintaining a sterile surgical field, preparing instruments and supplies, and providing required instrumentation to the surgical team.


The Surgical Technologist will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse and contribute to safe, efficient, and high-quality perioperative patient care.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare the operating room, instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies for surgical procedures.
• Apply sterile and aseptic techniques in accordance with AORN standards and facility policies.
• Inspect supplies for correct packaging, processing, moisture, seal integrity, sterile indicators, and expiration dates.
• Maintain and continuously monitor the sterile field during surgical procedures.
• Identify potential contamination and immediately initiate or communicate the need for corrective action.
• Pass instruments, supplies, and equipment to surgeons and other members of the surgical team.
• Support Tier 1 surgical cases and continue developing competency in additional procedures.
• Participate in surgical briefings, time-outs, and debriefings.
• Assist with patient transportation, operating-room preparation, room turnover, and case-cart readiness.
• Confirm that operating-room equipment is functioning correctly before and during procedures.
• Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Maintain current knowledge of surgical technologies, procedures, instrumentation, and equipment.
• Follow HIPAA, infection-control, patient-safety, and Just Culture standards.
• Perform additional duties within the Surgical Technologist's scope of practice.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of one year of Surgical Technologist or operating-room scrub experience.
• Completion of an accredited Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or qualification as a Licensed Surgical Technologist.
• Active Colorado Surgical Technologist license required at the time of submission.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification required.
• Working knowledge of AORN standards, sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and infection-prevention practices.
• Ability to communicate, read, write, and speak English effectively.
• Basic computer skills required for online training, policies, forms, and competency documentation.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
• Ability to provide care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift.
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, reach, and assist with room preparation and equipment movement.
• Ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Must be able to work around potential healthcare hazards, including biological materials, radiation, chemicals, heat, noise, and workplace stress.

RATE INFORMATION:

• Rate Type: All Inclusive
• Facility Bill Rate: $85.00 per hour
• Overtime: Regular all-inclusive rate plus $10.00 after 40 hours per week
• Holiday Rate: Regular all-inclusive rate plus $10.00
• On-Call Pager Rate: $4.00 per hour
• Callback Rate: Regular all-inclusive rate plus $10.00
• Callback Minimum: Two hours
• Mileage Reimbursement: Not provided

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

• Resume showing at least one year of relevant Surgical Technologist experience.
• Active Colorado Surgical Technologist license.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Surgical Technologist education or training details.
• Candidate availability for the September 28, 2026 start date.
• Maximum of four candidate submissions permitted for this job.

ADDITIONAL COMPLIANCE NOTE:


Colorado CAPS requirements must be initiated as soon as possible and may take up to two weeks to complete. Applicable out-of-state agencies must register appropriately to conduct the required employer screening.
