Litigation Associate (Tampa, FL)

The Tampa, Florida office of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick LLP has an opportunity for an exceptional associate to join its litigation practice. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of commercial litigation experience, including experience handling depositions and presenting in court. The successful candidate will have a strong academic record, and excellent analytical, research, and legal writing skills. Experience in federal court and in arbitration is preferred but not required. We are looking for candidates who have a passion for litigation and who take a proactive approach and ownership of their work. Candidates must have a strong commitment to client service and want to develop and grow their litigation skills by working alongside exceptional attorneys. Where You’ll Work This is an in-person position in the Tampa, Florida office. What You’ll Do Litigate commercial disputes from inception through resolution Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, and legal memoranda Take and defend depositions Prepare for and handle or participate in hearings, mediations, and trials Work closely with senior attorneys on case strategy and litigation management Communicate with clients, experts, and opposing counsel Manage caseload efficiently while meeting litigation deadlines and billable requirements What We’re Looking For Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the Florida Bar A minimum of 3 years of commercial litigation experience in state and federal court Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills including a strong aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines Comfortable handling depositions and court appearances commensurate with experience A thorough knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal rules of procedure Ability to work with a variety of attorneys and staff, and maintain a high degree of confidentiality Who We Are We’re not just another law firm - we’re something different.
