Chief Financial Officer

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners seeks an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee all financial activities at the highest level of management. The CFO will formulate long‑range financial goals, develop policy and position papers, and represent County Administration in negotiations and interdepartmental coordination. The position is a senior executive role within the County’s executive management team and provides significant guidance to all county departments on complex financial matters.

Responsibilities

The CFO is responsible for:

• Leading the Department of Finance and Administrative Services and its all divisions.
• Managing the annual department budget and directing financial operations of the County.
• Assessing financial data, trends, and risks to provide actionable insights to county leadership.
• Developing and executing long‑term strategic financial plans and policy alternatives.
• Ensuring regulatory compliance and public‑sector financial best practices.
• Encouraging transparency, accountability, and ethical governance across the finance function.
• Optimizing resources, pursuing innovative financial solutions, and leveraging technology for efficiency and decision‑making.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should possess a solid foundation in public sector finance and extensive knowledge of local government operations. Key attributes include:

Qualifications

Position Qualifications:

• • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; major course work in business administration, finance, or a closely related field is required.
• • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in public finance administration and general public administration, including six (6) years in an executive or highly responsible administrative capacity.
• • CPA License.

Preferred Qualifications:

• • A master’s degree and some private finance experience in addition to the required public finance experience.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range for this position is $208,029 to $332,014. Starting salary will be based on the applicant’s knowledge and experience. The State of Florida has no state income tax.

The County’s benefits include:

• Florida Retirement System – choice of two retirement plans: traditional pension plan with eight years of vesting or investment plan with one year of vesting; this position is eligible for Senior FRS status.
• Deferred Compensation – voluntary 457 plan offered through Mission Square, Brighthouse Financial, and Nationwide Retirement Solutions.
• Flexible Spending Accounts – eligible health expenses and dependent care accounts.
• Health Savings Accounts – County contributes to your HSA when you elect an HDHP and complete the County’s 2026 Engagement Incentive.
• Vacation and Sick Leave – accrued biweekly; annualized at three weeks of vacation and 12 days of sick time; additional 40 hours of job‑basis leave for exempt employees.
• Holidays – eleven (11) holidays and two (2) personal days.
• Insurance Coverage – plan options for Health, Dental, Vision, Flexible Spending Accounts, Long Term Disability, and Pre‑paid Legal; County subsidizes enrollment and provides a waiver credit if applicable.
• Life Insurance – $50,000 group term life insurance; additional coverage available for employees and dependents.
• Executive‑level Benefits – auto allowance, deferred compensation match up to 4%, one‑time relocation package, and moving expense reimbursement (if applicable).
