Purpose Statement The Maintenance Group Leader is responsible for the safe maintenance, repair and efficient operation of all equipment and areas of responsibility when the responsible Supervisor is not on duty. Supervises all maintenance personnel and coordinates efforts to ensure all personnel safely, effectively and correctly perform all daily maintenance activities to ensure maximum production quality and efficiency, while supporting the policies, goals and objectives established by the Shift Supervisor. Assigns all daily maintenance activities to shift mechanics and reprioritizes as needed. Supervises all activities of assigned maintenance mechanics and ensures production needs are met during the shift. Supervises shift mechanics duties to implement Rich Products maintenance program based on best practices in the baking industry, emphasizing safety and interdepartmental coordination. Monitors spare‑parts inventories, reorders as needed, and verifies ordering conducted by maintenance personnel. Authorized to make purchases up to $750.00 without supervisory approval. Assigns and verifies completion of all equipment scheduled PM assignments in the computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Ensures accuracy of all completed reports for tracking PMs, spare‑part consumption, and maintenance performance monitoring. Communicates regularly with shift maintenance mechanics and production leads to ensure effective two‑way communication regarding maintenance issues. Updates and maintains all service reports, event logs, operating instructions, service and training manuals during the shift. Ensures maintenance personnel adhere to all policies on personal safety, food safety and operating procedures. Monitors equipment operating conditions to maintain maximum performance and reliability. Reviews equipment operation and line conditions to minimize unplanned downtime and identify improvement opportunities. Carries out small improvement projects ordered by the Supervisor that reduce operating cost or improve equipment reliability. Adheres to all guidelines on overtime usage, parts purchasing, PM frequency and shift scheduling. Maintains a safe, healthy and comfortable work environment for all maintenance employees. Ensures compliance with all city, state, federal and local regulations pertaining to maintenance personnel and their activities. Supervises all work orders for the shift, ensuring they are carried out and paperwork completed correctly. Communicates directly with production department leads to coordinate maintenance activities. Responds to, investigates and resolves all equipment‑related product contamination issues. Communicates with the QC department to ensure mechanics follow QA policies and procedures while performing maintenance. Communicates with the Sanitation department to ensure mechanics follow sanitation procedures during maintenance activities. Reports harassment incidents to the Supervisor or Human Resources Manager. Performs other duties as assigned by upper management. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience High School degree or GED. 3 years of experience in a food‑processing, pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing organization, preferably with computerized manufacturing equipment. 5 years industrial mechanic experience, including lift equipment operation and heavy equipment handling. Demonstrated knowledge of pharmaceutical or food manufacturing environments. Working knowledge of FDA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP, food allergens and pest control. Knowledge of efficient and safe manufacturing operations, OSHA standards, product quality, cost control and waste minimization. Ability to analyze and resolve problems. Mechanical and spatial aptitude, capable of disassembling and reassembling equipment. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform routine production activities. Good vision and hearing for interacting with associates. Capability to work in freezers, noisy machinery, confined spaces. Skill in SAP/MLO reading, arithmetic, electrical troubleshooting and controls. Availability to perform preventative maintenance or repairs when alternative resolutions are unavailable. Reliability to respond to emergencies and report production‑impacting issues promptly. Willingness to work flexible hours. Compensation In accordance with state law, the rate or range provided is a reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount may be higher or lower, based on non‑discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, shift differential and location.
