The ED RN renders collaborative nursing care via the Method of Practice, Patient Coordinated Care, to a caseload of patients for an assigned shift in accordance to the healthcare practitioner’s treatment plan, nursing standards of care/practice and professional code of ethics.  The RN is committed to promoting the health potential of the patient (body-mind-spirit) through the implementation of the nursing process.  Demonstrates ability to delegate appropriately and direct staff in the coordination and delivery of care; assumes responsibility for the appropriate utilization of care resources; demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with others in problem resolution, is sensitive to the needs of patients, families, and fellow workers. Reports directly to the Emergency Services Manager. Delegates and directs assigned shift caseload team which may be comprised of RN’s and NSS’s. Must be a Graduate of School of Nursing and have a current Nebraska State RN license. 2-5 years ED or Critical Care experience preferred. 

Currently available:

• Full time, 36 hours per week.

•  Part time, 24 hours per week.

•  Night shift positions are from 6:30pm – 7:00am with every 3rd weekend rotation (Fri/Sat/Sun) & holiday rotation.

•  A $7,000 sign-on bonus is eligible with full-time positions.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate of School of Nursing

• Current Nebraska State License as a Registered Nurse required.

• On the job experience necessary as determined by department orientation requirements in order to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of department specific structure and/or process standards.

• Interpersonal skills necessary in order to instruct/comfort patients/families; to maintain effective communication/contact with healthcare team members.

• Analytical Skills necessary in order to prioritize workload and prepare nursing care plans, implement effective nursing care and develop solutions to problems concerning patient’s body, mind and spirit.

• Basic computer knowledge, including Outlook and Microsoft Office

• Basic Life Support within 3 months of hire and maintained

• ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire and maintained

• TNCC and NRP within one year of hire 

• Job functions must be performed on site with regular attendance.

• Understands that Nebraska is an at will state and that either the employer or employee may terminate the employment relationship at any time with or without cause.

• Performs direct patient care in accordance to performance standards listed on Skills Checklist according to the defined patient population of neonates, pediatrics, adults and geriatrics for the Emergency department and/or trauma patient.

• For shift worked, coordinates shift caseload of patients

• Delegates and directs care delivery appropriately

• Coordinates care effectively

• Accurately completes ED log with patient information and disposition

• Utilizes critical thinking skills in the application of the nursing process in the Emergency Department:

• Records & Completes patient triage to identify patient medical treatment needs and intervention level. Supports the initiation of the patient log via tracking board including update of medical diagnosis at disposition. 

• Performs focused nursing assessment for presenting condition

• Based on focused nursing assessment initiates ED standing orders. 

• Collaborates with Provider in the treatment plan and patient response to care delivery

• Keeps patient and/or significant other informed of care delivery plan

• Continues to reassess and revise the established care plan in relation to the patient’s response to, and the outcomes of the care provided as condition warrants

• Supports and develops Provider discharge plan of care. 

• Implements patient/family education based on ED diagnosis, and individualized needs, including actions to take if condition worsens

• If condition does not meet Melham admission criteria, supports patient stabilization and transfer to a higher level of care

ADMINSTRAIVE PRACTICE

• Oversees and provides feedback on work performance of the shift staff and other members of the health care team and provides feedback to the House Supervisor, and/or Manager. 

• Functions as RN caseload coordinator on assigned patient load.

• Serves as a preceptor to students and staff as requested.

• Follows chain of command to resolve issues or challenges.
