Accounting Specialist II

The Accounting Specialist II is an integral part of the Fred Hutch Accounting team and performs cash management and reconciliation functions relating to all aspects of Fred Hutch finances. While the role's primary function is to deposit and record incoming payments, the scope also includes broader reconciliation and intercompany coordination. The position will be trained and expected to support other teams within Finance and works closely with clinical and research stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely recording of financial information. The position reports directly to the Accounting Operations Manager.

Responsibilities

1. Review and prepare bank deposits in the banking portal.
2. Process cash receipts in the financial system, including customer payments application and donations coding/recording.
3. Review transactions and postings for compliance with established guidelines and policies.
4. Manage month-end cash receipts validation to ensure timely closing.
5. Manage A/R holding accounts reconciliations.
6. Perform endowment general ledger account reconciliations.
7. Support ongoing due to/due from account reconciliation by monitoring transactions during the month to ensure accuracy of cash team entries (e.g., philanthropy entries balanced with research/clinical entries).
8. Perform monthly bank-related transfers for clinical payments received in research bank accounts, in coordination with the clinical side.
9. Respond to internal/external customer inquiries and requests for information.
10. Resolve problems in recurring assignments in accordance with previous training and experience.
11. Assist with year-end audits and financial analysis, as requested.
12. Document, organize, and maintain retention files for required periods of time.
13. Assist with ongoing maintenance and configuration of financial systems.
14. Perform other responsibilities as required, including occasional support for other finance teams.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school graduation or GED.
• Minimum of two years bookkeeping, budget, tax or financial experience.
• Strong technology skills including efficiency with keyboard and mouse as well as experience with desktop applications including MS Excel, MS Word and MS Outlook.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Demonstrated ability to manage reconciliations of complex accounts (intercompany, due to/due from, endowments, or grants) preferred.
• Intermediate skills with MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Experience with PeopleSoft or similar ERP systems a plus.
• Experience with nonprofit, higher education, or research organizations a plus.
• Diligent and self-motivated with attention to detail.
• Ability to process transactions consistently and accurately.
• Strong reconciliation and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work efficiently.
• Excellent work habits, including organization and timeliness.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and desire to work in team-oriented environments.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $24.50 to $34.88 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
