Water Utilities Technician I, II, III and IV

Job Title Water Utilities Maintenance Technician I (also considered for levels II, III, and IV based on experience) Compensation Level I: $42,431.01 - $61,526.40 annually ($20.39 - $29.58 hourly) Level II: $44,977.43 - $65,218.80 annually ($21.62 - $31.35 hourly) Level III: $47,676.50 - $69,132.54 annually ($22.92 - $33.23 hourly) Level IV: $50,537.36 - $73,280.88 annually ($24.29 - $35.23 hourly) Summary of Position Under general supervision, performs technical tasks in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution and wastewater collection system. Responsibilities include repairing water leaks, installing and repairing water mains, and operating moderate to complex equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct basic supervised water inspection, installation, and repair of water mains, services, meters, hydrants, and valves. Assist in preparing work areas and securing job sites using cones, barricades, and traffic control devices. Assist in preparing tools, materials, and equipment necessary for job assignments. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and tools by cleaning and servicing regularly. Flush hydrants and track water loss. Identify basic water parts and operate valve turner. Conduct safety inspections and complete check‑off sheets and equipment logs. Serve on callout crew as needed. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by previous experience and/or training involving water construction, maintenance, and repair work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Class A commercial driver’s license or ability to obtain it within 12 months of employment. Conditions of Employment Must pass a drug screen and background check. Must hold a valid Class C Texas driver’s license. Must obtain National Incident Management System (NIMS) certificates IS‑100 and IS‑700 within six months of employment. During storms or natural disasters, staff may be divided into two 12‑hour shifts and called in while on vacation. Physical Demands Tasks involve heavy physical effort, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling moderately heavy objects (20–50 pounds) with occasional heavier items up to 150 pounds. Visual and odor perception and discrimination are required. Work Environment Limited exposure to environmental conditions; may involve exposure to strong odors, smoke, traffic hazards, extreme heat or cold, and other weather conditions.
