MCCLUER HIGH
Athletic Trainer: Architect of Athlete Safety
Location: FFSD High Schools District-Wide Athletic Support
Status: Grant-Funded Partnership Full-Time Professional Staff Exempt
The Opportunity: Elite Care for Student-Athletes
In Ferguson-Florissant, we believe our student-athletes deserve the same high-quality care found in professional sports. Through a specialized partnership with the Christian Hospital Foundation, we are seeking a high-energy, clinically skilled Athletic Trainer. You will be the primary source of sports medicine services—focusing on injury prevention, rapid evaluation, and expert rehabilitation.
As part of the FFSD "New Chapter," you will strengthen the coordination between our schools and medical professionals, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for every scholar-athlete to excel. If you are a clinical professional who thrives under the Friday night lights and has a heart for adolescent wellness, your next chapter starts here.
Role Summary
The Athletic Trainer provides comprehensive sports medicine services to student-athletes across the district. Reporting to the High School Activities Director, you will manage everything from daily practice coverage to emergency response at home and away events. You will develop individualized recovery plans, lead safety training for coaches, and serve as the critical liaison between families, school staff, and external physicians.
Why You'll Succeed (Qualifications)
- Licensed Medical Professional: Must possess a valid Missouri Athletic Training License.
- Educationally Prepared: Bachelor's degree required; experience in sports medicine or working with adolescent athletes is highly preferred.
- Emergency Expert: Hold current BLS (Basic Life Support), First Aid, and First Responder certifications.
- Certified Instructor: Must hold (or be willing to obtain) BLS/Heart Savers Instructor Certification to train our coaching staff.
- Specialized Skills: Ability to maintain the Missouri weight assessment program for wrestling and manage AED/medical equipment.
- Mobile & Flexible: Must have reliable personal transportation to travel between buildings and events, with the flexibility to work a schedule that follows the athletic season.
Your Impact (Key Duties)
- Direct Athletic Care: Provide expert evaluation, immediate care, and long-term treatment plans for all athletic injuries.
- Prevention & Education: Educate athletes and coaches on safe training practices, conditioning, and proper hydration/weather safety.
- Clinical Documentation: Maintain accurate, confidential medical records in strict compliance with HIPAA and FERPA.
- Safety Training: Lead CPR and First Aid training sessions for district coaches and staff to ensure a district-wide culture of safety.
- Emergency Action: Assist in the development and implementation of Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for all athletic venues.
- Clinical Liaison: Serve as the professional link between school personnel, families, and external healthcare providers to ensure seamless care.
Your Leadership Partners
- Primary Support: High School Activities Director
- District Oversight: District Athletic Coordinator
The Logistics of Your Success
- Classification: Professional Staff Teacher work calendar plus extended athletic season (July – June).
- Schedule: Daily hours vary (averaging 6 hours/day) based on practices, competitions, and seasonal needs.
- Physical Readiness: Must be able to respond quickly in emergencies and occasionally exert 50–100 lbs.
- Sustainability: This position is contingent upon continued grant funding and program support.
The FFSD Advantage: Total Rewards & Support
We don't just hire trainers; we invest in the guardians of our student-athletes.
- Hospital Partnership: Gain unique professional experience through our collaboration with the Christian Hospital Foundation.
- Health & Heart: 100% district-paid medical, dental, and vision plans, plus access to our Ferg-Flor Care district health clinic for your wellness.
- Professional Growth: Attend state and regional meetings to stay current with the latest best practices in sports medicine.
- Future Security: Enrollment in district-approved retirement and life insurance programs.
