Job Location: Columbia Project Office, 4201 Paris Road, Columbia, MO 65202 Why you’ll love this position: The construction inspector inspects routine construction items for conformance to plans, specifications, special provisions, and terms of the contract. What you’ll do Coordinates and performs construction inspections verifying that contractors' activities are in compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles. Performs duties of inspector in charge of routine construction items, such as asphaltic or Portland cement concrete plants, asphaltic or concrete paving, including grading and base, small bridges, concrete box and pipe culverts; inspects general or special items, such as utility adjustments, signing, traffic signals and lighting. Performs measurements, computations, or other work in preparing final plans, change orders, contractor payment estimates, and engineering costs. Maintains required construction documentation, records and files; prepares progress and other reports, keeps supervisor fully informed as to activities or unusual conditions on the job. Provides field checks for contractor surveying operations; serves as party chief on routine layout and staking; serves as instrument operator on staking of large bridges, other critical structures, or complex interchanges. All you need for success Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum. ABET accreditation assures confidence that a collegiate program has met standards essential to prepare graduates to enter critical STEM fields in the global workforce. Certification to operate nuclear gauges may be required. Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination. Successful candidates with the above qualifications will be considered for one of the three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. Entry salary- $67,307.04 Intermediate salary- $72,691.68 Senior salary- $78,506.88 Special Working Conditions Job requires moderate physical activity. Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment. Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials. A postsecondary degree is the best measure to ensure candidates possess required engineering knowledge, including in applied physics and mathematics, drafting, engineering processes and procedures, project management, industry ethical standards, and analyzing and modeling data. Minimum Qualifications – Non-ABET Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. OR 8 years of experience in construction inspecting or related field. Certification to operate nuclear gauges may be required. Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination. Successful candidates with the above qualifications will be considered for one of the three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. Entry salary- $57,762.48 Intermediate salary- $62,383.68 Senior salary- $68,803.68 Note for internal applicants: Successful candidates already at rates above the posted salary will be evaluated on an individual basis to determine final salary outcome.
