Position: Medical Technologist II (Med Tech)
Shift: 2nd Shift
Schedule: Monday-Friday | 12:00 PM - 9:00 PM (Approx.)
Schedule may vary by 1 hour (Example: 1:00 PM - 10:00 PM)
Contract Duration: Based on candidate start date (Project currently scheduled to end: 11/14)

Job Summary

The Medical Technologist performs routine and specialized diagnostic laboratory procedures requiring technical expertise, independent judgment, and decision-making while following established laboratory standards, policies, and procedures.

The role includes performing testing procedures, quality control, proficiency testing, phlebotomy and accessioning duties as needed, and assisting laboratory leadership with technical and administrative functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing procedures ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable results.
• Verify specimen integrity, prioritize workload, interpret results, and take appropriate actions per policy.
• Perform quality control and proficiency testing according to laboratory standards.
• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on laboratory instrumentation.
• Document QC results, maintenance activities, and testing procedures accurately.
• Utilize Cerner/STAR systems for test ordering, result verification, pending list review, and documentation.
• Maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with all laboratory policies.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, pathologists, physicians, nurses, patients, and laboratory staff.
• Support CAP inspections, policy updates, process improvements, and departmental goals.
• Maintain a safe work environment while following regulatory and compliance requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and diagnostic testing procedures.
• Ability to perform patient phlebotomy and specimen handling.
• Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Experience with laboratory information systems (Cerner/STAR preferred).

Work Environment

• Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching.
• Ability to lift/move items up to 50 lbs.
• Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, biohazardous materials, and laboratory chemicals.
• Requires attention to detail, visual acuity, and normal color perception.
• May require weekends, holidays, or call coverage based on department needs.
