Nursing House-Wide Supervisor Part Time Nights

Position Summary At Stony Brook Medicine, under the general direction of the Lead Administrative Nursing Supervisor, the Nursing House‑wide Supervisor (Part‑Time Nights) supervises and manages clinical staff—including nursing, social work, and counseling—during off‑shift periods. The role serves as onsite Administrator‑On‑Duty (AOD), providing leadership, guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure safe, smooth operation of all clinical services. Job Duties & Essential Functions Oversee nursing, social work, and counseling staff on evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. Plan and manage staffing schedules, ensuring adequate coverage and appropriate skill mix. Evaluate staff performance, provide feedback, and conduct performance reviews. Mentor, train, and provide ongoing education to nursing staff. Ensure clinical care meets established standards and protocols. Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff. Facilitate effective communication between patients, families, clinical staff, and providers; manage complaints to satisfactory resolution. Participate in care plan development, behavior support plans, and therapeutic intervention plans. Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and staff activities. Participate in quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and data collection initiatives. Address and resolve issues related to safety, patient care, and staff performance. Serve as point of contact between clinical staff and hospital administration. Ensure adherence to policies and procedures and collaborate with other professionals for coordinated patient care. Required Experience & Qualifications Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Licensed and registered to practice professional nursing in New York State. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or five years of acute‑care nursing experience). Minimum two years of progressive leadership experience in an acute care facility. Successful completion of ACLS Program within six (6) months of employment. Preferred Experience & Qualifications Critical care experience. Nursing specialty certification. Previous experience as Administrator On‑Call. Master’s degree in Nursing or a health‑related field. Physical Demands Ability to stand, walk, and move quickly for extended periods, especially during emergencies. Assist with patient transfers, repositioning, and physical interventions as needed. Lift and/or transfer patients using proper safety techniques and equipment. Handle equipment and supplies required for emergency care. React quickly to situations involving physical restraint, patient agitation, or aggression. Provide physical support in restraining or de‑escalating patients if necessary. Operate medical instruments, perform assessments, administer medications, and manage equipment with precision. Perform documentation and medication administration tasks accurately. Maintain physical and mental alertness during long shifts, including night shifts and weekends. Manage high‑stress situations with clear decision‑making and physical capability.
