Description Nursing Assistant II + Clerical (Clinical Support Tech II) needed for the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. The CICU is part of UNC Center for Health and Vascular Care whose mission is to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the care of patients with cardiac and vascular disease. This is a 36‑hour per week position; working 12‑hour rotating shifts (7 am‑7:30 pm and 7 pm‑7:30 am) with weekend and holiday rotation. This position qualifies for an extensive benefit package including PTO hours accrued based on the number of worked hours. It requires the ability to attend a week‑long orientation (Monday through Friday, 7:30 am‑5:00 pm) offered every two weeks. Summary The Clinical Support Technician II is responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patients and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and performing a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance functions at the patient care unit desk area. They perform patient care requiring clinical and procedural knowledge, sterile techniques, infusion monitoring, and medical equipment use. They coordinate communication flow on the unit, track supply inventory, order supplies and special items, and assist with clerical and administrative support including PI audits and data entry. Responsibilities Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, and procure equipment and supplies. Critically review patient care documentation, note significant changes in the patient’s condition, and report immediately to a registered nurse or physician. Provide a variety of clerical tasks including organizing and prioritizing workload, greeting and directing visitors, researching information, reviewing orders for logic and clarity, revising orders as requested by nurses, answering the telephone and patient call lights, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records; perform routine quality assurance audits, safety checks, and inventory of supplies. Provide administrative and clerical support including PI audits and data entry. Provide clinical support assistance: clean the work area, maintain office equipment, troubleshoot common software and hardware problems, change linens, check supply inventory, restock supplies, transport patients, supplies, and specimens, and assist in orienting new employees and students. Provide direct personal care to patients as outlined in the plan of care activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulation, measuring and recording vital signs, height, and weight. May be responsible for specimen collection, skin preps, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range‑of‑motion exercises, postural drainage, oxygen room set‑up, suctioning, tracheostomy care, fecal impaction removal, sterile dressing change, wound irrigation, IV fluid assembly and monitoring, IV site care, discontinuation of peripheral IV, ostomy irrigation and care, urinary catheterization and irrigation, and established oral, nasogastric, gastrostomy tube feeding. Reinforce routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and document patient understanding of instructions. Distribute patient education materials as requested by patients and/or health care providers.
