Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Geotechnical Lab Technician role based in Houston, TX. The Geotechnical Lab Technician will perform laboratory testing on soil, rock, and construction materials to support geotechnical and materials engineering projects. Day-to-day tasks include receiving and logging samples, preparing specimens, running standard tests (such as moisture content, Atterberg limits, grain size analysis, compaction, and strength tests), and recording results accurately. The role involves operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, following standard testing procedures, and adhering to quality control and safety protocols. The technician will also assist with organizing test reports, coordinating with project engineers and field staff, and helping maintain a clean, safe, and compliant laboratory environment. Qualifications Ability to perform geotechnical and construction materials testing (e.g., soil classification, compaction tests, concrete and aggregate testing) following standard procedures (ASTM, AASHTO, or similar). Basic mechanical aptitude for operating, calibrating, and maintaining laboratory equipment and tools safely and effectively. Strong attention to detail, with the ability to accurately log samples, record test data, and follow written test methods and quality control procedures. Good organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple samples and testing schedules in a fast-paced lab environment. Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with engineers, field technicians, and project managers. High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or certification in civil engineering technology, geology, construction materials testing, or a related field is preferred. Prior experience in a geotechnical or construction materials laboratory is beneficial but not required; willingness to learn and follow training is essential. Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting samples and equipment, standing for extended periods, and working safely in a lab setting.
