Work Schedule: 40 hours per week - All Shifts

DESCRIPTION

Hutco, Inc. is currently seeking experienced Structural Welders - Pulse Arc for long-term shipbuilding work in Newport News, Virginia.

Qualified candidates must have extensive structural welding experience in a naval shipyard environment and be proficient in multi-pass welding processes. Candidates must be prepared to successfully complete all required weld qualification tests without additional training prior to testing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Perform all-position structural fillet and butt-welding using SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GMAW-P (Pulse Arc).
• Perform welds in 2G, 3G, and 4G positions using applicable welding processes.
• Perform multi-pass structural welds to required shipbuilding specifications.
• Use fillet and butt weld gauges to verify completed welds.
• Perform air carbon arc gouging.
• Operate oxygen/propane heating torches.
• Prepare weld joints and surfaces for structural welding operations.
• Perform structural welding in shipboard and industrial environments.
• Work safely in confined spaces, at heights, on staging, and in other physically demanding shipyard environments.
• Follow applicable OSHA requirements and Newport News Shipbuilding safety procedures.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 4 years of structural welding experience at Newport News Shipbuilding or naval shipyards .
• Must have demonstrated experience with SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GMAW-P/Pulse Arc welding processes.
• Must be proficient performing structural welds in multiple positions, including 2G, 3G, and 4G.
• Must have experience using fillet and butt weld gauges.
• Must have experience performing air carbon arc gouging.
• Must be able to pass required weld qualification testing at the Newport News Welding School.
• Must be able to pass Visual Inspection of Welds Level I requirements.
• Must pass the required Welder Vision Test.
• Must demonstrate Carbon Arc Gouging proficiency.
• Candidates must arrive test-ready . No welding training is provided prior to qualification testing.

SAFETY & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must be able to meet applicable shipyard safety, medical, and PPE requirements, including:

• Confined Space Training - OSHA 29 CFR 1915
• Hazard Communication - OSHA requirements applicable to shipyard operations
• Respirator fit testing and medical clearance
• Fall Protection / Body Harness requirements
• Audiometric testing
• Hexavalent Chromium clearance
• Required flame-resistant clothing and welding protection
• Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, on staging, and in varying environmental conditions

REQUIRED PPE

Required PPE may include:

• White hard hat
• ANSI Z87-compliant safety glasses with side shields
• 8-inch steel-toe safety boots or approved leather footwear with spats
• Bilsom Leightning L1N muff-style hearing protection
• MSA Comfo Classic respirator
• Flame-resistant coveralls
• Full welding jacket
• Welding shield leather bib

WELD TEST REQUIREMENT

All candidates must successfully pass the required Pulse Arc weld qualification test before assignment.

Candidates should have recent hands-on Pulse Arc/GMAW-P experience and be prepared to test without additional welding instruction.
