Essential Functions

Essential job functions include developing and implementing treatment programming, utilizing a cognitive-behavioral model to address issues such as substance abuse, individual/family counseling, crisis intervention, and co-occurring disorders. The role involves carrying a regular counseling caseload, meeting standards on audits, documenting compliance and attendance, updating data in case management software, understanding evidence-based programs, providing screening and assessment services, collaborating with community supervision officers, participating in specialized training, documenting treatment sessions, providing assessment services to temporarily incarcerated probationers and defendants, and testifying in court hearings as needed.

The position also requires adherence to training requirements, credentialing, and compliance with policies, regular attendance, participation in special projects, and performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Must hold and maintain a professional counseling license and an advanced degree related to Texas Human Services. Bachelor's degree may be accepted, but a Master's degree is preferred.

Skills and Experience: Experience with cognitive/behavioral models, assessment instruments, and clinical documentation in a substance abuse treatment setting is preferred. Effective interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, analytical reasoning, documented willingness to exceed minimum expectations, ability to travel, adherence to policies, conflict resolution skills, ability to cooperate and collaborate with diverse backgrounds, and demonstrated ability to contribute to a workplace culture consistent with the CSCD's mission are required.

Supplemental Information

The work environment includes primarily indoor settings, face-to-face visits with inmates, contact with criminal courts, courthouse personnel, law enforcement, and community agencies, and working with individuals on supervision for felony and/or misdemeanor offenses. The position requires a part-time work schedule under potentially stressful conditions and may require a flexible schedule based on the needs of the CSCD.

Physical Demand Requirements include reading procedures, policies, standards, case files, reports, etc., reading, bending, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, speaking, hearing, lifting case files, significant computer data entry, managing stress in meeting deadlines and change, and other physical efforts as required. The duties may require travel to County Jail to conduct substance abuse assessments and involve office work which requires substance abuse treatment of criminal offenders who may present physical danger to the counselor and to the public. Office work requires prolonged periods of sitting and standing, moderate lifting, and walking.

Hours/Special Conditions: Work schedule will vary. This position may be required to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the facility.
