POSITION DESCRIPTION

Join HGL’s growing team in California as an Environmental Project Manager II. The successful candidate will serve as the Deputy Project Manager for a multi-year environmental investigation, restoration, and long-term management project at NASA’s Ames Research Center. This full-time, hybrid position is based out of our Pleasanton, CA office, with an expectation of 2-3 in-office days per week split between NASA and the HGL office plus occasional project-related travel. In this role, the successful candidate will support critical environmental restoration efforts while also contributing to HGL’s broader portfolio of complex environmental projects across multiple clients and programs.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The person hired for this role will be responsible for:

• Management of technical and administrative aspects of CERCLA RI/FS, RD/RA, operations and maintenance (O&M), and/or long-term monitoring (LTM) or RCRA equivalent phases of environmental restoration projects.
• Meeting project scope, schedule, budget requirements.
• Directing, managing, and leading project teams to meet objectives in-line with corporate and customer quality expectations.
• Mentoring of Junior Staff, Deputy Project Managers, and other staff in the proper execution of projects, preparation of deliverables, and engineering activities.
• Communicating effectively with clients, regulators, project team members, and company management.
• Effectively manage project risks and develop mitigation approaches and strategies.
• Supporting business development efforts, including leading or supporting proposal efforts.

Minimum Requirements

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:

• Minimum 6+ years of directly related experience executing and managing investigation and remediation projects under CERCLA and RCRA, including oversight of project teams, management of budget, schedule, safety, quality, technical performance, and customer satisfaction. An advanced degree may decrease the years of experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related academic field.
• Excellent time management and organization skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and keep organized to ensure timely and accurate work.
• Ability to build consensus among leadership, internal, and external stakeholders through effective interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.
• PE, PG, or other relevant certifications for California.
• Candidates must be able to pass a NASA background check to gain access to project site.

Desired Qualifications

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT – Preferred, not required

• MA/MS or PhD in a related field.
• Experience working with federal clients, including NASA and/or EPA Region 9.
• Work experience in the western United States.
• Prior experience on PFAS projects.

• Prolonged sitting up to 70% of the time; repetitive hand motions (typing, tool use, etc.); ability to see details at close range; viewing computer screen for extended periods; ability to interpret and analyze visual data (maps, graphs, warning indicators, etc.); driving a company or personal vehicle.
• Analyzing and synthesizing data; complex problem solving and decision making; reading and interpreting technical documents or regulations; writing reports, proposals, or technical documentation; leading a team or coordinating multiple priorities; communicating effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders; managing competing deadlines and shifting priorities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to travel up to 10% per year; both remote and office work environment.

Work Schedule: HGL office work is dictated by a 5-day work week.

Office Type: Hybrid with 1-2 days working in our Pleasanton, CA office and at least 1 day per week working on-site at the NASA Ames Research Center.

Travel: Up to 10% overnight travel.

FLSA Classification : Exempt.

The annual salary for this position ranges from $117,207 - $181,671. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills.
