Environmental Scientist III Pay Grade 15 Salary: $4,297.66 - $5,941.50 Monthly Employment Type: EXECUTIVE BRANCH | FULL TIME | ELIGIBLE FOR OVERTIME PAY | 18A | 37.5 HR/WK Location: 300 Sower Boulevard, Frankfort, KY 40601 USA Telecommuting may be authorized at the agency's discretion; arrangement may be terminated or modified at any time. Overview The mission of the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) is to improve the quality of life for all Kentuckians by protecting land, air, and water resources. This role is part of the Division for Air Quality, Program Planning & Administration Branch, Emissions Inventory Section. The Environmental Scientist III will work on air emissions and permits for Kentucky sources. Responsibilities Create agency interests for facilities. Review permitting data for compliance with emissions. Work with US Environmental Protection Agency on national emissions data inventory. Review and approve emissions inventory in the KY Emissions Inventory System (EIS). Skills to be Learned Air Emissions calculations. Air quality permit review. Air emissions inventory. Qualifications Experience in calculating air emissions. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Good customer service skills. Minimum Requirements Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in a natural, biological or physical science OR Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 20 semester hours in a natural, biological or physical science. Three years of experience in natural resources, environmental control, or a related area. Graduate study in a natural, biological, or physical science will substitute for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Experience in natural resources, environmental control, engineering, or a related area will substitute for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis. Working Conditions Work is typically performed in an office setting but may involve field work with frequent travel statewide. Incidents may include adverse weather, exposure to wildlife, water‑borne pathogens, broken glass, and hazards related to electro‑fishing equipment. Safety procedures apply. Probationary Period The job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
