EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, PATIENT CARE SERVICES (RN) CRITICAL CARE JOB OVERVIEW

Seeking an accomplished Executive Director, Patient Care Services (RN) to provide strategic and operational leadership for critical care service lines. This senior nursing leader will oversee multiple patient care departments, drive quality and patient safety initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, optimize operational performance, and lead the development of high-performing clinical teams.

This role combines executive leadership with hands-on oversight of critical care operations, focusing on exceptional patient outcomes, workforce engagement, clinical excellence, and organizational growth.

REQUIREMENTS Education

• Master's Degree in Nursing required
• Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) preferred

Experience

• Minimum of 7 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience
• Strong critical care leadership experience required
• Previous Director or Executive-level nursing leadership experience preferred
• Extensive experience in ICU, Step-Down, or comparable critical care environments

Licensure & Certifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) License in good standing
• Ability to obtain required state licensure if not currently held
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Executive Leadership

• Develop and execute patient care strategies aligned with organizational goals
• Lead large-scale operational and clinical initiatives across critical care service lines
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement
• Partner with executive leadership to support strategic organizational priorities

Clinical Operations

• Oversee daily operations of critical care and patient care departments
• Ensure compliance with clinical standards, policies, and evidence-based practices
• Optimize patient flow, nursing productivity, and operational efficiency
• Drive initiatives that improve patient outcomes and care delivery processes

Staff Leadership & Development

• Provide leadership, mentoring, and professional development opportunities
• Support recruitment, retention, and succession planning efforts
• Conduct performance evaluations and support leadership development initiatives
• Foster employee engagement and a positive work environment

Financial & Resource Management

• Develop and manage departmental budgets
• Monitor financial performance and resource utilization
• Ensure effective staffing and allocation of clinical resources
• Identify opportunities for cost savings while maintaining quality standards

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and healthcare standards
• Lead patient safety and quality improvement initiatives
• Monitor patient outcome metrics and satisfaction data
• Promote a culture focused on achieving the highest standards of safety and care

Collaboration & Communication

• Partner with physicians, nursing leaders, and multidisciplinary teams
• Support integrated care delivery across departments and service lines
• Address operational challenges and facilitate effective problem-solving
• Promote open communication with staff, patients, and families
