Assembler
$22 - $23 per hourJob Description
This role supports the production of high-quality aerospace structures, systems, and components by performing hands-on assembly work with sheet metal and related materials. You will prepare parts for assembly, build and fasten components using a variety of tools, and work directly from aerospace blueprints and schematics. The position is well suited for individuals with mechanical aptitude, a strong work ethic, and a desire to learn, including those from automotive, composite assembly, or other mechanical backgrounds.
Responsibilities
- Perform pre-assembly operations such as drilling and deburring sheet metal parts to prepare them for final assembly.
- Assemble component parts by attaching and fastening parts together, including installing ground studs, attaching nut plates, and bonding components as required.
- Use hand and pneumatic tools, including drills and other basic tools, to complete production assembly tasks safely and efficiently.
- Perform riveting and countersinking operations, including the use of drill guns, squeeze rivets, and related tools during the assembly process.
- Work from aerospace blueprints, schematics, and detailed work instructions to ensure accurate assembly and adherence to specifications.
- Use measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, shim gauges, and height gauges to verify dimensions and tolerances during and after assembly.
- Follow standardized work procedures and production schedules to meet quality, safety, and delivery requirements in a fast-paced environment.
- Inspect work for accuracy, completeness, and quality, and make necessary adjustments or rework based on feedback or inspection results.
- Communicate effectively with team members and leads to clarify instructions, ask questions, and resolve issues encountered during assembly.
- Maintain an organized and clean work area, including proper handling and storage of tools, equipment, and materials.
- Participate in on-the-job training to learn new assembly techniques, tools, and processes, and apply feedback to continually improve performance.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of hand and power tools.
- 1–2 years of assembly experience, preferably with sheet metal components, or equivalent mechanical background such as auto technician or composite assembler experience.
- Hands-on experience with drilling and deburring sheet metal or similar materials.
- Proficiency using hand and pneumatic tools, including drills and other basic tools, in a production or mechanical environment.
- Ability to perform riveting and countersinking operations accurately and consistently.
- Experience using measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers to check dimensions and tolerances.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and detailed work instructions.
- Mechanical inclination and comfort working with hand and power tools, including experience from work, school, or personal projects such as working on cars, robotics, or shop class.
- Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and willingness to ask questions and stay engaged.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, hands-on production environment.
- Prior experience using measuring tools such as calipers, shim gauges, and height gauges, including understanding how and where they were used.
- Ability to read and speak English to follow written instructions, safety information, and production documentation.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with coworkers and leads.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow work instructions and blueprints accurately.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and motivation to perform consistently and improve over time.
- Prior aerospace assembly experience, particularly with sheet metal components.
- Experience with countersinking and squeezing operations in a production or aerospace environment.
- background in automotive technology, composite assembly, or similar mechanical trades.
- Experience in fast-paced roles, including production, manufacturing, or other hands-on positions.
- Exposure to robotics, shop classes, or mechanical projects in school or personal time.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and stay organized in a production setting.
- Comfort working both independently and as part of a team, depending on production needs.
- Self-awareness of strengths and areas for improvement, with openness to coaching and feedback.
The organization emphasizes taking care of its people through a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package and a supportive culture focused on growth and stability. Employees have access to a 401(k) retirement savings plan with a company match, paid holidays, paid time off, and a full suite of medical, dental, vision, life, and accidental insurance benefits. Additional protection includes short-term and long-term disability coverage and an employee assistance program that offers counseling, consulting, and community resources. A wellness program and tuition assistance support long-term development and well-being. Quarterly bonuses are available once you become a direct employee, and after a 90-day temporary period, you may receive a raise of $0.50 to $1 per hour, with an annual merit increase of around 3% and potential for additional pay based on exceptional performance. The culture values engagement, curiosity, and mechanical aptitude, providing structured training and clear opportunities to grow skills and advance within the organization.
Work Environment
The role is based in a clean, organized manufacturing shop that works with steel and sheet metal to produce aerospace parts. The environment can be heavy and loud due to the nature of metal fabrication and the use of power tools and equipment, so comfort working around industrial noise and machinery is important. You will regularly use hand and pneumatic tools, drills, riveting equipment, and precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, shim gauges, and height gauges. Work is hands-on and fast-paced, with a focus on safety, quality, and teamwork. Day shift runs from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and swing shift runs from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with slightly adjusted start times during the initial training period. After approximately two weeks of training, there may be opportunities to start earlier depending on production needs. The facility emphasizes an organized workspace and consistent processes to support efficient and high-quality production.
