Process Improvement Specialist

Position Description & Qualifications Serco is looking for a skilled Process Improvement Specialist with a Black Belt certification to enhance the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) Improvement Sciences Directorate's efficiency in Navy Medicine. This role revolves around driving Continuous Process Improvement initiatives by applying methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and Get Real Get Better (GRGB). This is a HYBRID position located in Falls Church, VA, allowing for a blend of in-office and remote work. This position requires an active Secret clearance and is contingent upon the award of the contract. In this crucial role, you will help standardize processes, minimize variability, eliminate waste, and facilitate data-driven decision‑making throughout Navy Medicine, including BUMED and its subordinate commands. You will also serve as a mentor and technical expert, ensuring alignment with Navy Medicine's strategic goals and compliance with documentation standards. In this role, you will: Lead and support Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) projects using Lean Six Sigma and GRGB methodologies. Apply DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) to enhance existing processes and lessen variability. Utilize DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, Verify) for the development of new processes and technology integration. Facilitate Rapid Improvement Events (RIE) including planning, execution, and follow‑up to ensure sustainability. Incorporate GRGB principles with Lean Six Sigma methods per the American Society for Quality (ASQ) Black Belt Book of Knowledge. Analyze workflows to pinpoint inefficiencies and potential for standardization and optimization. Develop and implement strategies that reduce costs while enhancing stakeholder satisfaction. Conduct detailed process mapping and quantitative analyses. Create formal reports detailing current processes, identified inefficiencies, and suggested improvements. Design optimized future workflows and collaborate with stakeholders for implementation. Promote a culture of continuous improvement across various organizational levels. Provide professional development and training in diverse formats including in‑person and virtual. Conduct mentoring sessions to ensure knowledge transfer for belt certification candidates. Review project submissions for technical accuracy and alignment with strategic goals. Validate project scope, measurable outcomes, and compliance with Navy Medicine standards. To be successful in this role, you will have: A Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business Administration or Engineering. A minimum of three years of relevant experience, including Continuous Process Improvement and Lean Six Sigma knowledge within the healthcare sector. An active, adjudicated SECRET security clearance documented in the Defense Information System for Security (DISS). Continuous application of Black Belt practices since obtaining certification. Demonstrable experience across ASQ Black Belt Book of Knowledge elements or related quality organization. Proven ability to thrive in fast‑paced, mission‑driven settings while upholding accuracy and compliance. Sound business acumen and professional judgment. Willingness to travel up to 10% as required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications. Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational abilities. Desired Skills: Experience working with complex healthcare or military organizations. Excellent facilitation and stakeholder engagement abilities across various levels of an organization. Capability to translate data analysis into actionable recommendations for missions. Experience in mentoring Lean Six Sigma practitioners and reviewing their certification submissions. Additional Information: This role supports Navy Medicine operations and strategic initiatives. Some collaboration with geographically dispersed commands may be expected.
