Description: Unit is a rural setting without trauma designation. It has 13 beds and 2 trauma rooms. There is no fast track and no separate triage area. Holds are intermixed within the emergency department. Two mitigation rooms are available for psychiatric needs. Security is in-house 24/7 and housed in the emergency department. On average, the unit treats about 40 patients per day. The nurse to patient ratio is 4:1. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and PALS. Common diagnoses include cardiac, neurology, and general medical cases. Drips utilized include cardiac, neurology, and general medical. One physician provider is present per shift. A charge nurse has an assignment on each shift. There are no nurse aids, EMTs, paramedics, or patient sitters on each shift. Respiratory therapy is available when scheduled. Respiratory therapy covers all ventilator management. Nurses are required to interpret cardiac rhythms using Nihon-Kohden monitors. RNs transport patients to departments when necessary. Both RNs and phlebotomy draw labs. Shifts and scheduling may include a mix of self-scheduling and block scheduling. Weekend requirements include every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Holiday requirements are every other holiday. No call or standby requirement is involved. There are no floating requirements. Scrub color and dress code are flexible. Unit-specific orientation varies based on candidate experience.
