Position: PPS Personal Care Assistant (PCA)– Liberty $$ SN$$
Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Shift: Days – 35 hours/week (Report Time: 8:50 AM; Building Hours: 9:10 AM – 3:55 PM)
Duration: 38 weeks

Job Duties
• Provide direct support to a third-grade student diagnosed with Autism in the classroom environment.
• Assist the student with staying on task, maintaining focus, and participating in classroom activities.
• Support the student during transitions, changes in routine, and tasks requiring sustained attention and impulse control.
• Use positive reinforcement and appropriate behavioral strategies to encourage participation and task completion.
• Monitor and respond appropriately to elopement, off-task behavior, and attempts to avoid classroom work.
• Provide support with communication and social interactions while maintaining appropriate classroom boundaries.
• Assist with personal care needs, including toileting, hygiene, feeding, and dressing, as required.
• Support mobility and safety throughout the school day, including transitions to special classes, lunch, recess, and transportation.
• Follow the student's IEP, safety plans, and instructional guidance from teachers and special education staff.
• Monitor student behavior and communicate concerns or changes to teachers and supervisors.
• Maintain a safe, supportive, and structured environment for the student.
• Complete accurate daily documentation and required service logs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 12 months of recent experience.
• Prior school-based experience preferred.
• Experience supporting individuals with autism and/or developmental, intellectual, emotional, behavioral, physical, sensory, or multiple disabilities.
• Experience supporting students with communication needs, including nonverbal communication or AAC systems, preferred.
• Experience implementing support plans and promoting student independence.
• Experience with positive behavior support and de-escalation techniques preferred.
• CPI or MAB de-escalation training required per facility requirements.
• CPR verification required.
• First Aid course required.
• Ability to maintain reliable attendance and punctuality according to the PPS school calendar and assigned schedule.
• Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and effective communication.
• Ability to follow school-based communication protocols and complete required documentation.
• Ability to meet all required background checks, education verification, medical screenings, and facility-specific compliance requirements.
