Position: PPS Nursing Assignment (LPN or RN) – Pioneer $$ SN$$
Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Shift: Days – 37 hours/week (Building Hours: 7:45 AM – 2:11 PM)
Duration: 38 weeks

Job Duties
• Provide direct nursing care to a high-school student diagnosed with Down syndrome.
• Perform ongoing assessment and evaluation of the student's respiratory and airway status.
• Provide tracheostomy care and monitor for changes in airway or respiratory condition.
• Provide and monitor G-tube feedings according to physician orders and the student's Individualized Healthcare Plan (IHP).
• Monitor the student's overall health status and promptly report changes or concerns to the supervising RN.
• Assist with daily health needs, including feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene as required.
• Administer medications as prescribed under RN supervision and district policy.
• Respond appropriately to respiratory or other medical emergencies and follow established emergency care plans.
• Work closely with special education staff to support the student's medical and educational needs.
• Implement physician orders, IHPs, and applicable IEP/504 health supports.
• Maintain accurate health records, treatment logs, medication documentation, and student interaction records.
• Collaborate with the supervising RN and school team while maintaining confidentiality and following established communication protocols.

Requirements

• Active Pennsylvania LPN license; RN license also accepted as specified by the position.
• Demonstrated competency in tracheostomy care, G-tube feedings, respiratory/airway assessment, and emergency response.
• Experience with pediatric, school-aged, medically complex, or developmentally disabled individuals; school-based experience preferred.
• Experience supporting individuals with Down syndrome and/or complex medical needs.
• Ability to monitor respiratory and airway status and respond appropriately to changes in condition.
• Ability to implement physician orders, IHPs, and emergency care plans.
• Ability to work independently and respond to medical needs in real time.
• BLS certification/verification required.
• First Aid course required.
• CPI or MAB de-escalation training required per facility requirements.
• Ability to maintain reliable attendance and punctuality according to the PPS school calendar and assigned schedule.
• Professional conduct, confidentiality, and effective communication required.
• Ability to complete accurate daily documentation and required service logs.
• Ability to meet all required license verification, background checks, medical screenings, and facility-specific compliance requirements.
