Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist
The Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) performs a full range of general radiologic treatment procedures and possesses broad knowledge of the different advanced specialties; Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasound (US) and Bone Densitometry (BD) within diagnostic radiology. The Supervisory Technologist:
- assumes full professional responsibility for planning and directing the work of subordinate technologists, GS10 and below. The incumbent evaluates new products and equipment and makes recommendations to the supervisor concerning upgrades/new purchases that would improve operations.
- develops and maintains protocol manuals for procedures performed in the section.
- is responsible for implementation and adherence to all safety practices and policies for the section.
- directs the development and implementation of services and treatment to patients through the supervision, mentoring, and oversight of assigned clinical staff. Duties include creating work schedules, assigning, and regarding new and emerging procedures which would improve operations; interviewing candidates (technologist) for positions; recommending selections, advancements, promotions; evaluating performance; taking disciplinary action when necessary; and identifying educational and/or training needs; ensuring that adequate staff is available to meet workload demands in a timely manner. - ensures all technologists meet and maintain their targets.
- organizes work, set priorities, delegate tasks and responsibilities technical planning and oversight to set and adjust work priorities, and that work requirements are met based on employee capabilities.
- serves as a subject matter expert to the department, and facility regarding imaging equipment and the protocols.
- develops and updates technical policy and procedure manuals.
- teaches the correct methodology of procedures.
- communicates with team members and contribute to their growth by sharing knowledge, experience, and skill.
- maintains familiarity with medical center, VHA, and government-wide human resources management regulations, policies, and procedures.
- acquires and maintains knowledge in CT dose optimization and the factors that directly affect radiation dose from the CT scanner to the patient.
- maintains familiarity with policies and procedures for practicing radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff and self. This is achieved by optimizing technical factors and ensuring all policies and procedure are adhered to.
- oversees daily inspection[s] of radiographic units to ensure proper mechanical functionality and image quality.
- provides in-service training for technologists and other personnel involved in the operation and maintenance of Radiology imaging equipment such as DR panels, and other PACS type of operations maintained within the department.
- coordinates scheduling of preventative maintenance for modalities through biomedical engineering.
- works with physicists to ensure compliance with radiation safety program and for acceptance testing of all new installations of equipment.
- ensures accurate records, as required by management, for quality assurance analysis, quality control, performance improvement, and other related purposes.
- assist on the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and VA standards regarding radiology quality assurance and other technical functions.
Duties are continued in the Education Section.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 4:30 PM

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66
