If you’re passionate about joining a community that challenges the curious to deliver work that matters, your journey starts here!The Information Networking Institute (INI) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) educates and develops engineers through technical, interdisciplinary master’s degree programs in information networking, security and mobile and IoT engineering that incorporate business and policy perspectives.The INI seeks a Director of Career Services to join our team. In this role, you will lead the strategic vision and day-to-day execution of career readiness, professional development programs, and employer relations across the INI graduate programs. This position is based in Pittsburgh, with the option of a hybrid work schedule, and requires occasional travel to the CMU-Silicon Valley (CMU-SV) location. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who assesses student and corporate partner needs, develops creative strategies, and proactively takes appropriate action. The person in this role will work closely with the INI team in Pittsburgh and partner with the CMU-SV Career Services team to design, maintain, and execute a comprehensive career development and employer engagement strategy for INI graduate students in both Pittsburgh and Silicon Valley.Responsibilities:Managing all phases of Career Services activities of the interdisciplinary technical master’s programs of the INI.Working directly with students to guide them with career planning and job searches, as well as developing and implementing a strategic employer-relations plan.Recruiting, hiring, training and managing the INI team of student Peer Career Consultants.Building and maintaining strong relationships with key industry and government contacts, alumni, faculty, staff and students.Crafting and implementing the career services strategy for the INI graduate-level students, including professional development and internship and job search preparation.Identifying student career needs and developing, organizing and presenting appropriate career-related programs, workshops, online learning content and events.Cultivating potential and developing existing relationships with employers to understand industry trends and recruiting needs.Partnering with the CMU-SV Career Services team to align career development strategies and resources across both the Pittsburgh and Silicon Valley locations and to ensure bicoastal INI students receive consistent, high-touch career support while based in Silicon Valley.Assisting in the expansion of existing recruiting relationships by identifying the talent needs of INI’s recruiting partners and INI graduate students who can fill those specific needs.Supporting the Principal Investigator of the NSF-funded Scholarship for Service program coordinating student support, government relations, and necessary reporting.Representing the INI at job fairs, events, and conferences.Other duties as assigned.Adaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within Carnegie Mellon University. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through their work.Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (i.e. College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Engineering, Human Resources) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required. A master’s degree in a related field is preferred.3-5 years of experience in a career counseling role is required.
