Ground Support Equipment Mechanic

The Ground Support Equipment MechanicLead is the Subject Matter Expert in support the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of Army ground support equipment (GSE) and material handling equipment (MHE) at a contractor-managed equipment turn-in site. This role ensures that GSE assets (e.g., generators, air compressors, hydraulic jacks, power units, forklifts, and specialized support tools) are serviceable, compliant with U.S. Army technical manuals (TMs), and properly prepared for storage, turn-in, or transfer. The GSE Mechanic supports Army readiness and accountability by ensuring equipment is safe, functional, and documentedin accordance withArmy standards. The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Work involves a variety of the following duties: replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets painting structures and equipment; repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks, replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles, hanging doors and installing door locks, replacing broken window panes, and performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery. Excluded are: a. Craft workers included in a formal apprenticeship or progression program based on training and experience; b. Skilled craft workers required to demonstrate proficiency in one or more trades; c. Workers performing simple maintenance duties not requiring practical skill and knowledge of a trade (e.g., changing light bulbs and replacing faucet washers). Responsibilities Equipment Inspection & Maintenance: Perform inspections and diagnostics on ground support equipment and MHE during turn‑in processing. Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance per Army maintenance standards (DA PAM 750‑8, AR 750‑1, and applicable TMs). Service and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Verify equipment condition codes and annotate deficiencies for property accountability. Repair & Servicing: Repair andmaintainitems such as generators, heaters, lighting units, power distribution equipment, hydraulic test stands, tow bars, jacks, and lifting devices. Troubleshoot faults using Army‑approved diagnostic tools. Replace worn or damaged components and return equipment to a serviceable state when authorized. Tag, segregate, and document unserviceable equipment for proper disposition. Documentation & Systems: Record maintenance and inspection results using DA Form 2404/5988‑E and Army systems such as GCSS‑Army. Update condition codes (A–H) and maintenance records in compliance with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System. Ensure audit‑ready documentation to support Army inspections, reviews, and accountability checks. Safety & Compliance: Adhere to OSHA, Army, and company safety policies during maintenance operations. Safely handle fuels, lubricants, batteries, and hazardous materialsin accordance withenvironmental regulations. Enforce safety procedures for lifting, towing, and transporting GSE and MHE. Supportto Turn‑In Operations: Coordinate with Supply Technicians and Material Coordinators to verify serviceability and documentation during equipment turn‑in. Providetechnical advice to Army and contractor staff on GSE condition and maintenance requirements. Assistin preparing GSE and MHE for shipment, storage, or redistribution. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent is preferred; however, equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted. Vocational/technical certification in mechanical or electrical maintenance desired. Experience: 3–5 years of hands‑on experience in GSE or MHE maintenance (Army or contractor environment preferred). Familiarity with Army maintenance standards, TMs, and property accountability requirements. Preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) for GSE/MHE. Armylogisticssystems such as GCSS‑Army. Condition code classification and Army supply documentation. Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Strong leadership, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Proficiencyin reading TMs, schematics, and maintenance work orders. Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping skills. Effective teamwork and communication in a fast‑paced environment. Ability tooperateforklifts, cranes, or other MHE with proper licensing (OF 346 or equivalent). Excellent communication skills for interfacing with Army officials and contractor leadership. Basicproficiencyin the English language (reading and writing). Proficiencyin Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). Must be able to travel within the United States asrequired. This position requires travel up to 25% of the time. Must receive a favourable background check and drug testing results. Employees maybe requiredto perform other duties as assigned. Must have a REAL ID. Must have a valid driver’s license with proof of vehicle insurance. Must be able to obtain andmaintaina Common Access Card (CAC). Must be able to obtain Tier1/ NACI (Public trust) background eligibility. Physical Demands & Work Environment Must be able tolift upto 50 lbs. and perform routine standing, walking, bending, and reaching tasks in warehouse and field environments. Must also meet all physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties, including working in extreme heat or cold, high, or low humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, heights, and other inclement weather conditions.
