Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Duties and Responsibilities A. Management of Instructional Time: The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task. B. Management of Student Behavior: The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures that govern routine administrative matters; of verbal participation, talk, movement and classroom transitions; monitors behavior of all students during activities and stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently. C. Instructional Presentation: The teacher begins the lesson with a review of previous materials; introduces learning objectives; speaks fluently and precisely; presents concepts using understandable language; asks appropriate levels of questions; conducts lesson at a brisk pace and makes smooth transitions. D. Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: The teacher maintains clear work standards and due dates; circulates during class work to check performance; uses oral, written and other work products to assess student progress; poses questions clearly and one at a time. E. Instructional Feedback: The teacher provides feedback on in‑class work to encourage growth; gives prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work; affirms correct responses; probes or repeats questions after incorrect responses. F. Facilitating Instruction: The teacher develops instructional plans aligned with school and system goals; uses diagnostic information to revise objectives; maintains accurate records; uses available resources to support instruction. G. Interaction Within the Educational Environment: The teacher treats all students fairly, interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community. H. Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned; adheres to laws, policies and rules; follows a professional development plan and shows evidence of growth. Additional Job Functions: Performs other related work as required. Minimum Training and Experience Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Physical Requirements: Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools; lift, carry, push, pull objects; light work. Motor Coordination: Coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately with office equipment. Manual Dexterity: Handle items and tools; minimal levels of eye/hand coordination. Color Discrimination: Differentiate between colors and shades. Interpersonal Temperament: Adapt under stress; handle emergency situations. Physical Communication: Talk and hear; communicate by telephone. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Constantly monitor safety and well‑being of students, especially in inclusive activities. Motivate students. Maintain a clean and orderly environment; perform general clerical duties. Maintain order and discipline in a classroom; operate common office machines. Maintain basic files and records. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
