Manufacturing Sciences Intern

Thermo Fisher Scientific seeks an undergraduate intern for a 10-week summer position in manufacturing sciences at the Rockford facility. The intern will support efficiency improvement and manufacturing troubleshooting projects involving experimental design, laboratory testing, and process optimization for organic synthesis and biochemistry applications.
Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory experiments using analytical techniques such as HPLC, NMR, mass spectrometry, and spectrophotometry
- Design and execute experiments under mentorship to improve manufacturing quality, yield, and safety
- Document experiments, materials, and results with accuracy in laboratory records and batch documentation
- Write and edit technical documents including product specifications and manufacturing records
- Present project findings and results to team members and collaborators
Requirements
- Pursuing Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, Material Science, or related field
- 1+ years previous internship or related work experience required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Basic laboratory skills including pipetting, analytical balance use, and buffer preparation
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal abilities
- Demonstrated leadership experience through student organizations, athletics, or community involvement
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds; geographic flexibility and US work authorization required
Compensation: $18.50 - $28.75 hourly; $5,000 relocation stipend if eligible
