Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Neuro ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: Active Illinois license or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Ventriculostomy experience - NIH Stroke Scale Certification - Experience with ventilators, arterial lines, and central lines - Ability to administer tPA and manage acute strokes - Post craniectomy experience Description: The unit consists of 18 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2. RNs are required to titrate drips as ordered by the physician. Common titratable drips will be utilized. There is a charge nurse and a house supervisor on each shift. The charge nurse may take on an assignment if staffing levels dictate. Nurse aides and patient care technicians are available on the unit with a ratio of 9:1. RNs are expected to troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment. There are telemetry monitors, and RNs must read and interpret their own strips. Tele-monitoring is performed using Phillips monitors. The unit follows a schedule of 12-hour shifts. Every other weekend work is required. Rotating holidays are also required. Traveling nurses may float first to any unit in the hospital. The hospital accommodates floating requirements to intermediate and general floors. General floor nurses maintain a 1:4 patient ratio. Unit-specific orientation will be provided.
