Wolcott Rivers Gates is seeking an experienced Family Law Paralegal to join our team!

Position Summary:

A Family Law Paralegal at Wolcott Rivers Gates provides essential support to attorneys handling complex family law matters from beginning to end, including divorce, division of assets, custody, child and spousal support, and other related issues. The paralegal is expected to maintain communication with client, assist with trial preparation, settlement conferences and mediations, the discovery process, and overall case management. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a fast-paced caseload while maintaining professionalism and empathy toward the client.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct factual and legal research as needed.
• Draft legal documents including pleadings, motions, letters, discovery requests, stipulations, proposed orders, support calculations, subpoenas, petitions, settlement agreements, memos, affidavits, correspondence, and other legal documents/forms.
• Prepare and organize documents for court filings, hearings, and trials.
• E-file and/or submit documents to the appropriate courts.
• Coordinate service of process and manage client document exchanges.
• Summarize depositions, interrogatories, and other discovery responses.
• Track case status and deadlines in case management software and systems to ensure all deadlines are met.
• Maintain, organize, and update paper and electronic files and calendars.
• Communicate with clients, experts, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
• Assist attorneys in preparing for depositions, mediations, and court proceedings. Prepare trial notebooks and exhibits.
• Provide consistent follow-up and status updates to clients under attorney direction.
• Billing and invoicing: Track and enter billable hours.
• Completing other ad-hoc requests and duties as assigned.

Compensation Range: $60,000 - $78,000 per year commensurate with experience.

Skills:

• Working knowledge of the litigation process and court procedures in Virginia
• Proficient with legal software and Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong writing, proofreading, and organizational skills
• Familiarity with discovery processes, including Requests for Production, Interrogatories, and subpoenas
• Professional demeanor and ability to maintain confidentiality
• Experience with high-asset divorces, complex custody matters, and support calculations (Preferred)

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a paralegal in a family law practice or practice group.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Bachelor's Degree, Paralegal certificate, or equivalent combined education and experience
• Notary Public certification (Preferred)
