Unit Secretary - Neuro Progressive Care (PT Nights)

Additional Information About the Role Location:  Barnes-Jewish Hospital (South Campus) Schedule: Two 12-hour shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM weekly, including every third weekend and approximately 3 holidays per year. Overview Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Neuroscience Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 21 bed unit dedicated to the care of patients in need of specialized nursing care at a critical point in their healthcare journey, where they are at high risk for clinical deterioration.  Progressive care, with lower nurse patient ratios, allows for frequent assessment, intervention, treatment and specialized monitoring. The unit cares for pre and postoperative neurosurgical, neuro-medicine and stroke patients with complex needs using a team approach with nurses, charge nurse and patient care techs.  Bedside, central monitoring, and remote telemetry are standard for all PCU patients. Many resources are available to nurses on this unit, including:  Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Mananger, Assistant Nurse Managers and a Nurse Educator.  Additionally this nursing team collaborates with and are supported by a wide array of the multidisciplinary providers, physicians and pharmacists. A specialized orientation is provided to prepare nurses to care for the neuroscience patient as well as training specific to Progressive Care.  Ongoing education and professional development is supported and encouraged. Attention to nursing patients with the provision of excellent outcomes is what drives the work on this unit. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose The Unit Secretary performs clerical duties supporting the operations of the patient care team. Responsibilities Supports the clinical operations by providing customer service and clerical support. Transcribes physician orders as appropriate with close attention to detail. Notifies appropriate nurse when STAT orders are written or when coordinating tests and procedures. Communicates new orders to the healthcare team as appropriate.
