Position: Travel RN - PACU

Shift Information

Shift: 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Unit Overview

The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is comprised of 17 pre/post bays, staffed by a dedicated team of healthcare professionals committed to patient care. The unit primarily operates during the day shift with the following staff composition:

• 3 Full-Time Staff
• 1 Part-Time Staff
• Utilization of PRN staff for enhanced support

Patient Care Ratios

• Pre-Operative: 1:2
• PACU Phase 1: 1:1
• PACU Phase 2: 1:2

Equipment and Technology

The following equipment is utilized in the PACU:

• Stretchers
• Blood Glucose Monitors
• Vital Sign Monitors
• Pyxis Machines

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System

Meditech

Qualifications and Skills

Ideal candidates should possess the following qualifications:

• Minimum of 1 year of current PACU experience
• BLS and ACLS certification

Preferred qualifications include:

• Knowledge of physical and occupational therapy instructions for joint patients
• Comfort with bedside teaching

Typical Procedures Performed

Common procedures in the PACU include:

• Total Joint Procedures
• Sports Medicine Procedures
• Foot and Ankle Surgeries
• Some Podiatric and Hand/Nerve Cases
• General Surgical Procedures (such as Hernias, Laparoscopic Appendectomies, and Cholecystectomies)
• Breast Cases, including Mastectomy with Tissue Expanders or Direct-to-Implant Cases

This PACU offers a dynamic work environment, with a focus on orthopedic cases (80%) and general surgery (20%). The unit is recognized for its kind and supportive surgical and anesthesia teams. Staff enjoy a collaborative culture and benefit from the experience and tenure of their colleagues. The PACU features 8 bays, complemented by 6 Pre-Op bays for 4 operating rooms. The facility, being only five years old, is well-regarded for its beauty and cleanliness.
