YOUR POSITION WITH TNC The Healthy Cities Program Coordinator will support the Healthy Cities team to execute its work to advance urban tree canopy in the Phoenix Metro Area and meet TNC’s 2030 goals. This includes supporting the Healthy Cities Program Manager and the Healthy Cities Capacity Building Program Manager as they design and implement their specific programs, which includes municipal engagement and the continuation of the award-winning TNC Urban Heat Leadership Academy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Healthy Cities Program Coordinator will work across the team to support multiple projects as we scale our presence and impact across the Phoenix Metro Area. This includes performing administrative tasks including tracking and documenting programmatic outcomes, coordinating in-person and virtual meetings and events, and writing and/or designing newsletters or briefs to communicate critical information to policymakers, city officials and community groups. The Healthy Cities Program Coordinator will be managed by the Healthy Cities Program Manager but will also help to advance the Capacity Building Program Manager’s projects. This includes helping to implement and scale the annual TNC Urban Heat Leadership Academy and the new Community of Practice. Coordination and Logistics (approximately 40%) Provide event management support for live and virtual events offered through the Urban Heat Leadership Academy Track and monitor graduate progress through the Urban Heat Leadership Academy and alumni engagement through Community of Practice and/or Community Impact Program Support Healthy Cities Program Manager in creation of new pilot grantmaking program for municipal partners by providing critical administrative and coordination support, including supporting in the development of RFPs and related agreements Communications (approximately 30%) In collaboration with the Marketing team and Healthy Cities Program Manager, develop marketing and communication materials to raise awareness about nature-based solutions and best practices that mitigate heat Develop and maintain an Urban Heat Leadership Academy newsletter for the new Community of Practice to keep alumni involved and aware of opportunities to work on heat mitigation Research (approximately 20%) Compile opportunities for community engagement on heat to share with partners and Urban Heat Leadership Academy graduates Summarize and prepare policy briefs and/or decks to support municipal engagement Other (approximately 10%) Represent the Conservancy in public forums and represent the Conservancy with the private sector, academic community, government agencies, media outlets and the general public alongside Healthy Cities Program Staff Work alongside Healthy Cities Staff to build new partnerships across the Phoenix Metro Region, which might include attending external events and/or connecting with new potential partners Participate in wider-TNC initiatives focused on event planning and other skill areas needed for this position Other duties as assigned RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE Performs tasks with minimal supervision and makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances Frequently makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and context Ensures that The Nature Conservancy’s Youth Safety policy is adhered to when there are any activities that may include youth Be willing to travel, work overtime, and work evenings and weekends as needed Travel will include around the Phoenix area on a regular basis; occasionally other locations in Arizona and in U.S. (retreats, training, etc.) Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain Lift, move, push, pull 20 pounds on a regular basis. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS BA/BS degree and 3 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong communication skills and ability to distill information Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s). Experience performing and summarizing basic research Experience with current technology such as the full suite of Microsoft applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint; and databases. Valid driver’s license. Youth qualified within initial 30 days of employment; yearly thereafter DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience engaging with community and/or grassroots groups within the Greater Phoenix Area or other similar urban areas Experience working in or with local, county, state or federal governments in Greater Phoenix metro area Fluency in Spanish Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated Knowledge of current trends in urban resilience/sustainability policy, practice, and projects Knowledge of current trends, practices, methods and standards of urban conservation, including urban forestry, green infrastructure, stormwater management, urban planning, etc. Ability to communicate clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and Spanish This description is not designed to be a complete list of all duties and responsibilities required for this job. SALARY INFORMATION The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $59,680 – $63,410. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
